Injured Murali Vijay, Wriddhiman Saha out of Sri Lanka series

Wriddhiman Saha and Murali Vijay have been ruled out of the remainder on India's tour of Sri Lanka after suffering injuries in the second test, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Sunday.

Saha has suffered a strain in his right hamstring while Vijay has sustained a minor recurrence of a hamstring injury.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named wicketkeeper Naman Ojha and Karun Nair as their replacements to join the team," the BCCI said in a statement.

Despite the pair being injured, India are in a strong position to claim a series-levelling victory in the second test ahead of the third game which begins also in Colombo on Friday.

Named as a replacement player for injured Murali Vijay in the Indian squad for the third and final cricket Test against Sri Lanka, young Karun Nair said that the call up was a dream come true for him and will boost his confidence.

Obviously, it's a dream come true and I am very happy about this call up

- 23-year-old Nair told PTI from Wayanad, Kerala, where he is with the India 'A' team for the ongoing 'unofficial' Test series against South Africa 'A' side.

I believe one of the most important knocks has been the triple century that I scored in the Ranji Trophy final against Tamil Nadu, last season. It gave me a lot of confidence just like this century against South Africa A. When you score runs at this level you gain a lot of self confidence

- said the talented Karnataka batsman who hit a patient hundred to ensure a hard-earned draw for India A against South Africa A in the first unofficial cricket 'Test' on Friday.

Nair will leave Wayanad soon and is expected to join the Indian team in Sri Lanka in the next 2-3 days.
