West Indies will feel they’ve accomplished what they were invited to do; give Sachin Tendulkar a grand farewell. All the while ensuring that BCCI’s real reason was served, that of teaching Cricket South Africa a lesson in power-play. If you mess with the big boys, what you get is a black eye, the will to surrender your own men and a sympathetic two match series.
Reports suggest that Sachin’s final Test was the most watched match in 8 years. Maybe he should do an ‘Afridi’ and make a comeback and retire again. It’d be good for Test cricket.
The one-day series was decided in the third and final match. But apart from providing the young Indian batsmen with the opportunity to break some records, the entire tournament was a meaningless affair.
In cricketing parlance, it was as meaningless as…
1. The ICC.
2. Ravi Shastri’s commentary and Siddhu’s verbal dysentery.
3. England’s 82 page dietary plan.
4. Any ‘independent’ committee formed to review evidence in a case against the BCCI.
5. Pakistan cricket team’s ranking.
6. A 2 match Test series.
7. On field umpires.
