Glenn Maxwell dropped from Australian ODI Squad

In a blunt message issued by Australian selector Rod Marsh, Glenn Maxwell has been dropped from the Australian ODI squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka was announced and quite a few changes were mentioned, the omission of Glenn Maxwell being the biggest.

Australian selector Rod Marsh said in a statement,

If you want to play cricket for Australia, you should be consistent. If you are batsman, you should get consistent runs. If you are a bowler, you should get consistent wickets, or bowl well. As far as I am concerned, he (Maxwell) has had a lot of chances. It got to that stage - we couldn't go on any longer.

He further added, “Glenn has too many games where he doesn't contribute with the bat. He is a hell of a good fieldsman, as we know, he is a handy bowler, and, at his best, he is one of our first picked in a one-day team. But if he is not making runs, then we have got to find a solution to it. The solution we have come up with is to put him back a step or two and see if he can get some runs there on a consistent basis.”

This is the first time Maxwell has been dropped from the limited-overs squad altogether since his debut in 2012. He was included in the Tri-Series against West Indies and South Africa in June but didn’t contribute with the bat or ball.

Other noticeable changes in the squad are the inclusion of Moises Henriques and Shaun Marsh in the place of Scott Boland and Travis Head.

Australian ODI Squad:

Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), George Bailey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Josh Hazlewood, Moises Henriques, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa
