48.5 - Willey to Randiv, FOUR, Willey simply turns back with disgust. He's bowled a decent full ball which curls...swirls away with some tail to find the outside edge as Randiv swings for the rafters. Runs away to beat third man

48.1 - Willey to Tharanga, FOUR, loads up on the bottom hand and crashes it over extra-cover with a hefty swish. Too short from Willey and he doesn't have the pace really. Tharanga backs away a touch and gets a lot of meat

46.4 - Willey to Randiv, FOUR, second boundary of the over with a cute little paddle from Randiv. He shuffles across off, picks a length ball and helps it on its way. Fine enough

46.1 - Willey to Tharanga, FOUR, thick edge and it skips away into the third man fence. No slips which is understandable at this stage and Tharanga gets away with a loose drive away from the body. The length wasn't quite there

43.5 - Plunkett to Tharanga, FOUR, squared up from round the wicket, an outside edge and four. Cruel for Plunkett who gets the ball to hold its line from a back of a length, Tharanga is neither forward nor back and the movement foils his defence

39.1 - Moeen Ali to Tharanga, FOUR, Ali overpitching and is punished by Tharanga. Scythed away through the covers with a big swish. He's been short of runs recently and could do with these gifts...

37.5 - Root to Tharanga, FOUR, another poor one, this time down leg and this time Tharanga doesn't miss out. Goes hard on the pull and gets a little tickle down to the fine leg fence

29.2 - Plunkett to Chandimal, FOUR, down the pitch and cross-bat smite through mid-wicket. The key was he predicted the length early and placed it in the gap, fair enough! No risky business from Dinesh

27.3 - Plunkett to Chandimal, FOUR, excellent placement from Dinesh Chandimal. Pierced the gap between deep square and long leg to perfection, length on the stumps - He walked across and whipped it with those rubber wrists, in the air and in the gap. Don't run...

26.5 - Adil Rashid to Chandimal, leg byes, FOUR, just past a diving leg-slip. The googly that spins past Chandimal's flicking blade, just tickles the pad and flies to the right of Alex Hales. Bonus runs these...

26.1 - Adil Rashid to Mathews, FOUR, the sweep-saga continues from Sri Lanka. This time Mathews makes a meaty connection as he sinks and times the strokes to perefection, past the keeper and raced away

24.0 - Moeen Ali to Mathews, FOUR, sprayed wide and Mathews eyes lit up. Jumps back and cracks a cut behind backward point, right off the meat and no-one's stopping that

21.4 - Moeen Ali to Mathews, leg byes, FOUR, yet again Mathews gets outside off and tries to repeat the slog-sweep, was a bit too early. The inward spin brushes the pads and runs away to the fine leg fence

19.1 - Moeen Ali to Mathews, FOUR, low full toss and Mathews doesn't need too many opportunities to get going. Drops to one knee and belts the sweep square on the leg-side, no chance for the man in the deep

12.4 - Plunkett to Chandimal, FOUR, oh, this shot doctors its way through the slight gap between backward point and cover-point. The former gives the chase after Chandimal opens the face of the bat and sliced this length ball away, but fails

8.1 - Plunkett to K Perera, FOUR, that's lovely wrist work. Nicely cocks his wrists as he opens the face of the bat, chips it over backward point. Bairstow chases - an effort that's reckoned as "valiant" on air but the ball teases the dive to win in the deep

6.1 - Plunkett to K Perera, FOUR, that's a horrid delivery from Liam Plunkett. Full toss outside off, asking Perera to exhibit one of his muscular strokes, Perera though doesn't get carried away - Just throws his arms on the drive and clobbers it past mid-off

2.3 - Willey to K Perera, FOUR, that's a swipe. A brutal whippy swipe to shame this full ball on the middle and leg stumps. Gets nicely forward and low and crashes it through mid-wicket

1.0 - Willey to Gunathilaka, FOUR, what a way to end the over. Willey remembers that there's a slip cordon, pitches the ball very full to bring it into play but Gunathilaka foils it all with a front foot cover drive. Easy on the eyes

47.3 - Woakes to Tharanga, SIX, slower ball, sits up and hacked away to the deep mid-wicket boundary, all the way. Poor delivery really. Allowed Tharanga plenty of time to rock back and pummel the pull. Flat six

4.4 - Willey to Gunathilaka, SIX, Mic. Holding is in full awe of that stroke. He just whispered "WOW." That expression should tell you the story - Pitched right up to be bashed, Gunathilaka just extends his arms and uses his wrists to get the elevation. High and soaring over the long-off fence. Oh those bats I tell you... One hand came off after the execution but when the ball met the blade the sound was electric - Crrrrrunced

4.2 - Willey to Gunathilaka, SIX, not timed but this carries all the way. Takes the length on with a big front foot stride and clubs it over mid-off for an overwhelming six

40.4 - Willey to Maharoof, out Bowled!! Right through him! Just a little bit of nip back into the right-hander from a good length and Maharoof has played all around it. It's not done a great deal but enough to take the top of off. Sri Lanka are disintegrating. Maharoof b Willey 2(3)

40.0 - Moeen Ali to Chandimal, out Chandimal Run Out!! Another run-out and Sri Lanka sink further into darkness with their set batsman hobbling back. Huge mix-up after a ball is knocked into the on-side, Chandimal and Tharanga agree on the single at first before Tharanga sniffs trouble seeing Roy swooping in from mid-wicket and bails out. Chandimal had already reached the point of no return and all it took was a reasonable under-arm throw near the stumps to put an end to his vigil at the crease. Chandimal run out (Jason Roy/Buttler) 52(86) [4s-3]

34.1 - Adil Rashid to S Prasanna, out Caught by Willey!! David Willey has plucked the catch of the season. Fantastic, absolutely top-class stuff from the Northampton lad, he rolls on the ground, hands-on-hips and stares at Alex Hales in utter disbelief. I'm sure he will show that to his grand children in the future. Coming to the dismissal: Prasanna took a stride forward and lofted this high into the blue skies - More elevation than distance. Willey from long-on covers a few acres of ground to his left and pounces like a Puma and snaffles it inches above the ground. S Prasanna c Willey b Adil Rashid 2(6)

32.5 - Adil Rashid to Mathews, out Caught by Plunkett!! Plunkett can't go wrong today, he just can't. Wonder what that last ball six would have done to his confidence, remember Mic Holding having a discussion around those lines - On how small moments can change a cricketer's career. Okay! Nuff said. Adil Rashid gets his reward for some consistent bowling - Slowed it up and lured Mathews to play across the line. The ball did dip and bounced a bit extra than Mathews anticipated. Skews the slog-sweep off the top-edge. In the air....who wants it? (Bumble-style) Plunkett puts his hand up as he runs back at backward square and swallows sans any fuss. Mathews c Plunkett b Adil Rashid 44(54) [4s-3]

16.4 - Willey to Chandimal, out K Perera Run Out!! No 3rd umpire theatrics, Roy too good. A direct hit and Perera is gone. This ball was short but not much room on this, Chandimal ends up chopping it away off the underedge. Roy hounds it down, uses his left arm and throws it all in one motion at the striker's end to hit the bull's eye from backward point. K Perera run out (Jason Roy) 37(45) [4s-3]

8.5 - Plunkett to Kusal Mendis, out Lbw!! And now Plunkett has his second wicket. Mendis plays across this in-ducker that scissors in to beat the whipping bat and hits Mendis above the knee roll. A loud appeal, umpire Bruce Oxenford keeps his chest guarded with that revolutionary disc and smiles as he raises the finger. HawkEye shows that it would have just clipped the the pair of bails over the middle stump. Kusal Mendis lbw b Plunkett 0(9)

6.3 - Plunkett to Gunathilaka, out Caught by Buttler!! Now he goes. Plunkett keeps working him with that delivery angled across, Gunathilaka is lured into a flash again, goes hard and a feather carries back to Buttler. No feet, just stood there and swung. Gunathilaka c Buttler b Plunkett 22(21) [4s-1 6s-2]

2.0 - Woakes to Gunathilaka, 1 run, edged and Hales drops it at 2nd slip. A shortish length angled across, Gunathilaka has a flash at it. Did well to not go half-hearted, a healthy top-edge shoots back for Hales to clumsily drop it. Moved to his right and fumbled, as 1st slip readied behind to hold onto the ricochet

49.1 - Woakes to Tharanga, 1 run, fraction full outside off, driven down to long-off to bring up a half-century for Tharanga. He's ensured that Sri Lanka at least bat out these fifty overs..

37.3 - Root to Chandimal, 1 run, now he gets to his fifty! An honest effort from the Lankan middle order batsman who's had to tone down his natural game for the situation. Clips it from off stump through mid-wicket, nothing grandiloquent about his celebration

34.1 - S Prasanna to Jason Roy, FOUR, England have butchered Sri Lanka to go 1-0 up in the series. Finished off in style by a fleet-footed Roy who dances out to carve a scorching inside-out drive wide of long-off

30.3 - Maharoof to Hales, FOUR, full and wide, Hales stoops low and throws his bat on the drive, kisses the outside edge and beats a sparing dive from short third man

28.3 - S Prasanna to Hales, FOUR, third ODI hundred for Alex Hales! Just cracks the cut through the covers, runs...pumps his fists...leaps in joy. Off go the helmet and there's a big, broad grin as the crowd acclaim his effort. Those emotions did tell a lot...

28.2 - S Prasanna to Hales, FOUR, Alex Hales has had enough - He seems to be in some sort of hurry, crouches low and goes for a big heave-ho. Not off the middle but he gave it all on the shot, raced away through mid-wicket

27.1 - Gunathilaka to Jason Roy, FOUR, down the pitch again, but this time it's Jason Roy. Not quite to the pitch of the delivery but those wrists had enough power to bludgeon the flat delivery for a one bounce four over long-off

23.2 - Randiv to Jason Roy, FOUR, Jason Roy unleashing now. Swaps his arms and brooms the cover of the leather with a crrrrrrrunced resonance - Scorched square on the off-side

22.1 - Maharoof to Hales, FOUR, "Different bowler but same result," warbles MJ on air. Pitched up and right there to be spanked, Hales throws his bat like an axe and caresses the drive through cover

21.1 - S Prasanna to Jason Roy, FOUR, slightly short and wide, Roy cashes on the width and spanks it through the covers, all the way

20.3 - Pradeep to Hales, FOUR, excellent use of the feet from Alex Hales - Steps out, gets to the pitch of this full delivery and smack-bags it straight, bounced just before the long-off ropes

18.2 - Pradeep to Jason Roy, FOUR, just get across the sticks and whack it - Simple mantra from Jason Jonathan Roy. Moves forward and across and thumps this fullish delivery high and over mid-on. One bounce and over the ropes. So much power on that...

16.4 - S Prasanna to Hales, FOUR, fifty for Alex Hales. Brings the milestone up with a slog-sweep over mid-wicket, one bounce over the ropes

9.1 - Randiv to Jason Roy, FOUR, slip karma for Randiv. Does everything right - loops it full, invites a drive, gets the edge that cannons past the keeper - but couldn't convince Mathews for a slip

8.3 - Pradeep to Hales, FOUR, beautifully played. Allows the back of a length delivery to arrive, opens up and uses his height to pack a back foot punch away through cover-point

5.5 - Randiv to Hales, FOUR, oh, that was over Randiv. Well over, say the replays. Randiv loops this one, Hales decides to stay put and flat-bats it straight down the ground

4.3 - Maharoof to Hales, FOUR, goes pacy, goes full outside off and Hales clamps it away through covers with a spanking front foot drive

1.3 - Lakmal to Jason Roy, FOUR, now this has been crucnhed away. Is on the front foot, sees the width, stands taller and flashes it away through point

0.3 - Maharoof to Hales, FOUR, ah, wristy. Maharoof goes fuller in greed, attacks the pads and Hales shovels it away with a clip through mid-wicket

33.0 - S Prasanna to Jason Roy, SIX, that's it, down the track and rammed over the ropes! Roy completes his 2nd ODI ton and raises his arms in delight much to the ecstasy of his teammates on the balcony. Got right to the pitch of the ball and gave it a real spank

29.1 - Randiv to Jason Roy, SIX, greyhounds down the pitch and announces himself with a swagger of a stroke over long-off. 32 came off the last 6 balls

29.0 - S Prasanna to Hales, SIX, oh my! This man's on fire. Make that 27 off the over - This has been golfed into the crowd over deep mid-wicket....This is some batting I tell you

28.5 - S Prasanna to Hales, SIX, that's been batted, bruised......Fill in your own terms. Gets right underneath this full delivery and tonks it into the same region. High into he blue skies and crikey! He hit that hard

28.4 - S Prasanna to Hales, SIX, no more waiting games, floated in his zone and Hales smokes it into the cow corner orbit

27.0 - S Prasanna to Hales, SIX, into the second tier! That might well be the longest of the day - Record opening partnership against Sri Lanka. Steps out and smites it over long-off

23.3 - Randiv to Jason Roy, SIX, top-notch! Down the pitch like a bull in pamplona and baaaaaaang! Straight down the ground for a maximum. Jeez! Look at that bat speed - 95kph

21.0 - Pradeep to Hales, SIX, tit for tat! Hales gets forward slightly and marmalizes this full ball with a clean bat swing, a maximum over long-off

12.5 - Maharoof to Hales, SIX, oh, that authoritative. Maharoof pings a shorter length with the pace that's not just good enough. Hales gets back, stands tall and clobbers it over cow corner

11.5 - Randiv to Jason Roy, SIX, pyrotechnics. There, and here, as Raju Peethala, my colleague-friend nearly burst his casket as he roared emphatically. Roy shimmies out, gets underneath this and lofts it well over long-off

30.4 - Maharoof to Hales, no run, dropped by Gunathilaka at backward point! Short and wide, Hales slams the cut straight into the lap of backward point who snaffles and drops instantly. Just hit the palms and he seems like he wasn't expecting the catch...

33.4 - Randiv to Jason Roy, 1 run, half-tracker which goes unpunished. Roy belts the pull all along the ground to deep mid-wicket. Brings up the 250-run partnership

19.3 - S Prasanna to Jason Roy, 1 run, calm and composed innings from Jason Roy - Fifty for him - His 4th is ODIs. Gets there with a drive past a diving bowler, single to long-off

17.4 - Lakmal to Jason Roy, 1 run, 100 up for England. Jason Roy drags this pull through mid-wicket and shakes hands with his partner
