Due to some technical problems, we are unable to cover live matches on our site and app. We are working on it and will be back soon. Please stay tuned for more.

Morne Morkel will start for South Africa. Vijay will take first strike. Two slips, a gully and a leg gully in place.

South Africa are back in the field and in the midst of a team huddle. There's help for the bowlers from this pitch. Can Morkel, Abbott and Co. make the most of it? Dhawan registered a pair in Mohali and will be under some pressure. On the other hand,Vijay looks in sublime touch. If light holds good, we will have 29 more overs for the day

India won the toss on a moist pitch, opted to bowl first and will be the happy camp right now. The pacers didn't reap the rewards, but Ashwin and Jadeja were back at what they do best. Both finished with four wickets each, in between, Varun Aaron produced a ripper to dismiss Amla and the innings ended with a run-out. There was one batsman who withstood the Indian attack though and that was AB de Villiers. In his 100th Test, he produced an innings of high quality and determination. He looked all set to go on and register a 100 in his 100th Test, but Saha produced a bit of magic to deny him. The track has become better to bat on and the hosts will back themselves to take a big first innings lead. Join us in a while for India's batting..

58.6 - Ashwin to Kyle Abbott, out Kyle Abbott Run Out!! Terrible misunderstanding has cost Abbott his wicket. This was pushed through just outside off, Abbott lunged forward, played with the spin and turned it towards short fine leg. He immediately set-off for a quick single, Tahir started and stopped as he saw Dhawan pouncing on the ball, sends his partner back, but it's way too late. Abbott is stranded halfway down the pitch when the return arrives, Saha whips the bails off and it's all over for South Africa in their first innings. Kyle Abbott run out (Dhawan/W Saha) 14(40) [4s-2]

Ashwin to Kyle Abbott, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

Abbott is run-out. South Africa have been bowled out for 214.

Imran Tahir, right handed bat, comes to the crease

58.5 - Ashwin to M Morkel, out Caught by Binny!! India's catching has been superb and this is perhaps the best today - Top catch from Binny. This was tossed up invitingly outside off, drew Morkel into the big lofted shot, the ball spins away a tad, Morkel doesn't get anywhere close to the pitch, gets plenty of height but not the distance. A real skier for Binny as he runs back from mid-on, kept his eyes on the ball even as it dropped over his shoulder, lunges forward and takes a well judged two-handed catch, he fell onto the ground, but doesn't lose the ball. Gets up with arms stretched aloft, the Bangalore crowd love it, India have their ninth wicket. M Morkel c Binny b Ashwin 22(20) [4s-3]

This was tossed up and on the off-stump line, Rabada was pushing forward, he went with hard hands, the inside edge is found and it lobs off his pad, simple catch to Pujara - who's back at a FSL position. Welcome back.. AB was the difference between a score of 200 and 250. His dismissal, right at the stroke of tea, has put India in complete command. Can they get rid of the tail quickly? Once again it's the Indian spinners who have put up a good show - although the track hasn't been of much help. Rabada is the new man in..

India are in a commanding position but won't want to get complacent and let tail-enders get away with much, something which has been a problem in the past. They got ABD at the right time and the bowlers have proved their captain right by sending more than half the South African team back to the pavilion. Do join us soon for the last session...

In a team which is studded with stalwarts like Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla, de Villiers keeps proving why he is the Superman. He was unlucky to have not got a century in his 100th Test, but did all he could to keep South Africa in the game. For India, the spinners have been impeccable. Ravindra Jadeja got some turn and bounce, which is so unusual for a day 1 Bangalore pitch. Ashwin continued with his orthodox line and slower-through-the-air tactic. Aaron was quick, but consistency still eludes him. Ishant did not get wickets but bowled perfect lines and troubled the Proteas with some extra bounce. By the end of the session, he was seen hiding the ball, but there was not much reverse swing on offer.

A session which helped India tighten their grip on the match. Spinners bowled in tandem but it was the sheer dedication from AB de Villiers which would also count as one of the highlights of the session. Earlier, Dean Elgar gifted his wicket soon after lunch, trying to play a pre-meditated sweep and later JP Duminy was undone by Ashwin. And just when South Africa would have hoped to go into the tea break without any further damage, their best batsman and hope departed, leaving them in shambles.

51.3 - Ravindra Jadeja to de Villiers, out Caught by W Saha!! Massive wicket, massive wicket for India. No hundred for AB de Villiers in his 100th Test. The crowd erupts and then immediately goes "ABD, ABD," as he walks back to the dressing room. de Villiers raises his bat to acknowledge all the applause. Clever bowling once again from Jadeja. He saw de Villiers giving the charge and pulled his length back, de Villiers was trying to defend as he was not to the pitch of the ball, the inside edge lobbed off the pad, Saha was alert to the situation. He ran forward and put in a full length dive. Stuck his left hand out and plucked it inches from the ground. There was a doubt whether the ball hit the ground, but it actually bounced in Saha's gloves. It was a clean catch and that was the end of an excellent, entertaining innings from the maestro. With that wicket, the players walk off for the tea break as well. de Villiers c W Saha b Ravindra Jadeja 85(105) [4s-11 6s-1]

Ravindra Jadeja to de Villiers, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

Saha has taken a blinder. Umpire Richard Kettleborough is walking towards the square leg umpire and asks the Indians to wait. So that's a sign that he's sure that de Villiers has hit this. No issues with the no-ball. Looks like that has not touched the ground. A tough call, but slightly easier than the du Plessis one. Remember, the soft signal is OUT. And the verdict is OUT.

51.2 - Ravindra Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, oh that would go down as a dropped chance. Flighted delivery down the leg-side, de Villiers was early into the sweep, the ball takes the glove and then goes off the back of the bat as well, hits Saha on the chest as he was moving to his left, he had the chance to grab the rebound but he didn't go for it again as he probably thought there was no bat/glove involved

51.1 - Ravindra Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, flatter and outside off stump, de Villiers punches to cover

48.6 - Ishant to de Villiers, FOUR, shortish delivery outside off stump, de Villiers loft-drives hard, gets the bottom of the bat, but it clears the infield and rolls away over extra-cover

The field comes up to prevent the single

48.5 - Ishant to de Villiers, no run, wowww! What a delivery! Ishant can't believe that it's missed the stumps. Kohli has left the point region open, so de Villiers tries to target that zone again with an attempted lazy dab, the ball tails back in sharply and cuts him in half, goes past the under edge and just misses the off stump

48.4 - Ishant to de Villiers, 2 runs, in the gap again. Short of a length this time, punched to the left of the man at cover, easy two

48.3 - Ishant to de Villiers, 2 runs, this is great cricket from the maestro. Inswinging length delivery on the off stump, de Villiers defends with an angled bat, no one at backward point and he puts pressure on the fielder in the deep and comfortably returns for the second run

48.2 - Ishant to de Villiers, no run, de Villiers knows that Ishant is bowling a good line, so he wants to unsettle him and gives the charge, tries to drive hard but toe-ends the drive to cover. Now that de Villiers is advancing, how is Ishant going to react?

48.1 - Ishant to de Villiers, no run, nicely bowled and well handled as well. Good length delivery angling in and then holding its line, de Villiers was almost squared up in his defence, but the class batsman that he is, manages to defend it towards point. That was bowled at 144ks by Ishant

Welcome back.. Three big wickets for India in the first session - the bowlers justifying Kohli's decision to bowl first. But AB has walked in and has looked comfortable - the Chinnaswamy crowd have been loud, cheering every wicket India takes and every run that AB scored. Can he get a big knock in his 100th Test?

He looked as calm as ever and stayed positive throughout. Whenever there was a boundary ball on offer, ABD obliged and ensured it didn't go scot-free. Elgar kept getting better and he seems all set for a well-compiled fifty. The highlight for South Africa so far was Elgar dancing down and lofting Ashwin straight down the ground. South Africa need more of those (positive approach I mean), but India will be pleased with proceedings. More of ABD and South African batting coming your way after lunch. Join us for the post-lunch session at 12:10 local

Guess what! Five balls later, the Proteas lost 2 wickets, hinting that they were mentally worried against spin rather than the pitch forcing any errors. du Plessis' catch will make up for some controversial news as the grab from Pujara didn't seem conclusive enough. Hashim Amla came in and perished to a peach from the pacy-Aaron. There was a huge roar as soon as Abraham Benjamin de Villiers loped out to the middle in what was his 100th Test match.

Chilly morning accompanied by chants of ABD greeted the South Africans after being asked to bat first. To everyone's surprise, Kohli threw the ball to the local lad Stuart Binny asking him to share the new ball duties along with Ishant Sharma. That ploy didn't do wonders but the duo of Ishant and Binny were able to keep the batsmen at bay. With a bit of moisture and the pitch keeping low, one wouldn't have expected an early introduction of spin. Kohli though had other ideas as he brought Ashwin on just when the openers were looking to settle in.

20.5 - Ravindra Jadeja to Elgar, no run, unnecessary from Elgar, he didn't pick the straighter one outside off, went to dab and realised that he was better off leaving that alone, in the end a nothing shot and he gets beaten. So easily could've feathered it to the keeper there

AB's mom and wife are in the audience. They were very emotional when he came out to bat. A tear in the eye or two as they hugged each other. Probably got carried away by the crowd's reaction as well which was massive and expected from Bengaluru as they consider AB to be their very own

18.4 - Aaron to de Villiers, no run, good length on off stump, defended to mid-on

Now round the wicket

16.4 - Aaron to Elgar, no run, pitched up outside off, left alone

16.3 - Aaron to de Villiers, 5 runs, unnecessary from Kohli and AB smiles at his good luck. It was pushed to the Indian captain at mid-on, AB was well in and Kohli as he does often flings a throw wide of the stumps, two men were backing up but Ishant's dive is a lazy one and the ball runs away for four extra runs. de Villiers gets off the mark with five. Aaron isn't happy at all with that from Kohli but keeps his displeasure to himself

16.2 - Aaron to de Villiers, no run, de Villiers wanted to play at that and then was late to pull out. Did so as the line was outside off and the length was short, de Villiers jumped across in trying to defend but realised that he needn't have had to play at that

14.6 - Aaron to Amla, out Bowled!! Look at the respective reactions from batsman and bowler. You will get the entire picture. While Amla is shell-shocked, Aaron is running around in delight, punching the air. It was a top delivery too from Aaron, bowled quicker and on a good length, hits the pitch and straightens past the defensive stroke to uproot off stump. Amla played slightly inside the line and down the wrong line of the ball. He expected it to come back in after pitching but the ball held its line to square him up just the wee bit. Time for drinks as well. The South African openers seemed to be in no trouble at all until Ashwin was brought on in the 8th over. Two wickets came India's way as van Zyl missed a straight delivery and then du Plessis was caught at short leg. Still think some part of the ball touched the grass as Che caught it in his fingertips. But Shamsuddin the third umpire was convinced and India got their second. 7.5 - Ashwin to du Plessis, out Caught by Pujara!! du Plessis walks off after being given out by the third umpire. But I have my doubts. To me a part of the ball was touching the grass before being safely clasped by Pujara. The third umpire is Shamsuddin who has a couple of replays to look at and then makes his call. Needed more looks I guess. But he seems happy and that's what matters. The soft signal was out from Kettleborough which meant there needed to be conclusive evidence to overturn that call. Anyway coming to the wicket - du Plessis came down the track, the ball spun in and there was an inside edge onto the pad on the flick, went low and near his bootlaces, Che at short leg got both hands and held on, but the ball seemed to have a touched a blade of grass as Che cupped it with his left-hand. He gets up and throws the ball away in delight. Reflex catch and a top one at that for he stayed low and concentrated on the ball instead of du Plessis's footwork. Brilliant effort from Che and the Indians are all patting him for that. du Plessis c Pujara b Ashwin 0(3)

Ashwin to du Plessis, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

du Plessis is waiting. He isn't going nowhere. Che at short leg is running around in joy having taken a low catch. Kettleborough goes upstairs and the soft signal is out. Has Che grounded that after taking the catch? He has taken it - but did the ball touch a part of the grass before he pulled it up and threw it away. No! The third umpire is happy with the replays and he gives it out! So du Plessis walks off for a duck. Another failure in the series

Basically van Zyl has missed a straight delivery, on middle, floated up and van Zyl was late on the forward defence, the ball strikes him below the knee roll and would've been crashing into middle and leg. He also didn't come sufficiently forward to that one. He pays the price for his laziness. Nothing great about the ball, just that van Zyl caused his own downfall there. Kohli: 'The bowlers did a superb job. Bowling out South Africa inside three sessions was a great job, especially on a Bengaluru wicket known for runs. Many were surprised when we chose to bowl, but the bowlers proved themselves. It's a pity we lost four days of the Test after being in such a good position, but we can take some positives. Dhawan getting back into runs and having his confidence back is a big boost for the team. Happy with the way our bowlers have responded to situations. We had a great day in Bengaluru, we will look to take the confidence to Nagpur. The conditions will be different, hopefully, there will be no more rain there.'

Amla: 'We have had about 7 days of playing time in our last four Tests. I am surprised that we lost about four days here, when I was asked about it before the game, I didn't think it would happen. AB's 100th Test was big for us, he made a fine 85, the highlight of our batting effort. We didn't bat all that well on the first day, but the game was well poised, we will look to learn from this going ahead. Looking forward to the next game, Nagpur will be a different challenge, we will look to make a comeback there.'

Well, this was inevitable. Rain has ruined the Bengaluru Test, the 100th Test of AB de Villiers. Day 5 has been called off without a ball being bowled. It wasn't torrential downpours, but just enough rain to keep everyone indoors. The high water table content here didn't help the cause one bit either. After having dominated day 1, the hosts were well set to take pole position, but it was as good as it got. Not a ball was bowled from day 2 onwards, leading to a drab draw. India lead the 4-Test series 1-0 with the third Test to be played in Nagpur from the 25th.

11:10 Local Time, 05:40 GMT, 11:10 IST: Well, it was just a faint drizzle. It has stopped now but the groundstaff are in no hurry to get back to clearing the ground. Does it send out a message? Our man at Chinnaswamy stadium, Ganesh says that most parts of the ground are still under covers. The inspection is scheduled in a while.

11:00 Local Time, 05:30 GMT, 11:00 IST: Yesterday, it started to drizzle at 1:45 PM, just 15 minutes before play was about to commence. Rain is following the same pattern once again, it has started to drizzle at the ground once again, 30 minutes before inspection.

10:05 Local Time, 04:35 GMT, 10:05 IST: I am afraid there's nothing new to report. The inspection has been done, the umpires aren't happy with the conditions and they will check once again at 11:30 AM IST. A few Indian players are out in the middle, the drizzle has stopped but it continues to remain cloudy.

10:00 Local Time, 04:30 GMT, 10:00 IST: It's time for the inspection. This has been the wettest November in decades in Bengaluru, sadly, the Test match also fell prey to vagaries of the nature. Will we get some good news?

09:40 Local Time, 04:10 GMT, 09:40 IST: The inspection is 20 minutes away. Will we get any positive news? The drizzle looks to have eased up a bit, although the thick grey clouds remain.

09:05 Local Time, 03:35 GMT, 09:05 IST: We have some live pictures and it doesn't look good. The drizzle has got heavier and the entire square has been covered. It's a nice day for the joggers, a fine day for people to sleep on their couch and have a nice cup of hot coffee, but if you are a cricket lover, this is the sort of weather that you dread. Will the 10 AM inspection happen? Fingers crossed at the moment.

08:55 Local Time, 03:25 GMT, 08:55 IST: Oops, the groundstaff are bringing out the covers. It has started to drizzle at the ground, might just be a brief shower, we still have an hour for the inspection to happen.

08:50 Local Time, 03:20 GMT, 08:50 IST: I am afraid it has started to drizzle slightly a few kilometres away from the stadium. The umpires had a look at the conditions and decided to have an official inspection at 10 AM IST

08:35 Local Time, 03:05 GMT, 08:35 IST: It's a cloudy but beautiful morning in Bengaluru. The sort of days that makes you feel good about the city. While it's still coudy, hopefully, we will have some play. Three days were lost due to rain and the chances of a result from AB's 100th Test are all but ruled out. India will resume from 80/0, still trailing by 134 runs and might well decide to have some batting practice - as they prepare for the final two Tests. On the other hand, South Africa will be silently thanking the rain gods for making an appearence - especially after a disappointing batting performance in the first innings. There will be a minimum of 83 overs plus the additional 15 overs to be bowled today. Cricket aficionadoes in Bengaluru have been left disappointed over the past few days, hopefully, they will get entertained on the final day.

14:30 Local Time, 09:00 GMT, 14:30 IST: Yet another day of frustration for everyone concerned. Day 4 has been called off. The umpires had a chat with the groundsmen and decided that it's not worth to risk the players, with the conditions not at their best. With three days lost, chances of a result from this game is next to nil. But we will have the fifth day coming up tomorrow, the forecast is a lot better. Play will start at 9:15 AM local time - with 98 overs scheduled. It will be a minor miracle if we do get a result from this match, but both teams will be keen to make the most of what is expected to be a dry day. Do join us for all the action. For now, it's cheers and bye..

13:55 Local Time, 08:25 GMT, 13:55 IST: Ganesh doesn't bring us any positive news. He says that the rain has got heavier and the umpires are having a chat with Indian captain, Virat Kohli. He also adds that play could be called off soon.

The one good news is that it is just a slight drizzle and a few Indian players are still doing their batting practice in the nets. As of now only the pitch has been covered. So once the drizzle stops, we should be almost ready to go for the scheduled start of play. Ganesh is up to some tricks. Now he pings saying that the ground is fully covered which is bad news! Just kidding Ganesh! He says that since the drizzle was lighter, only the pitch was covered. Since it got heavier, the groundstaff had to bring on the other covers as well. If this continues, won't be long before a third successive day is washed out without a ball being bowled.

Scratch all that previous update off. This is so frustrating for me to type but I have to do my job - it has started to drizzle again and the stumps have been taken off. The covers are being brought on. Such a pity immediately after the inspection. And a word for the groundstaff. You got to feel for them. So much effort they put in to get the ground ready and the heavens have opened up to spoil all their hard work. Let's wait and watch as to what happens next.

13:00 Local Time, 07:30 GMT, 13:00 IST: Time for the inspection! The umpires are out there in the middle. We should have some sort of news. Hopefully it is a positive one. Yes great news - 'play will start at 2:00pm' local says Ganesh. Revised session timings for today - 2pm to 3:30pm. And then the final session - 3:50pm to 5:15pm. Extension of 30 minutes if weather permits. 45 overs scheduled to be bowled in the day.

Lots of school children in today at the ground. They are in great spirits at the moment. It will be a pity if they are denied some action. But all we can do at the moment is twiddle our thumbs and patiently wait. Let's hope for some play today!

11:35 Local Time, 06:05 GMT, 11:35 IST: Ganesh pings me that the inspection is going on currently. The umpires are chatting to the groundsmen as I type this. We have another inspection scheduled at 13:00 local. The umpires had a look and felt that they needed more time for the ground to get ready. The run-up area is fine for the umpires. So is the pitch. But the real concern is the patches on the outfield where there are wet spots. Fielding will be a problem on those areas. The patches that I'm talking about are not covered by grass. It is pretty bare.

One can see Ajinkya Rahane batting in the nets. He is a workaholic, isn't he? Takes hundreds of catches everyday and then bats for hours in the nets. Great work ethic! Meanwhile, one hopes that early lunch is taken so that once the conditions are ready for play, we don't have to waste 40 minutes of time for the break. We will come back with an update once we have some news. Keep waiting is all I have to say currently

10:10 Local Time, 04:40 GMT, 10:10 IST: The inspection is on currently. We will have news as and when we get it. And BCCI have tweeted: "There will be another inspection at 11:30. That means we have lost the first session yet again". Huh oh! This is frustrating! Live visuals show the umpires walking gingerly to the middle. Still conditions underfoot are wet. That's what they are worried about. The run-up area is a major concern as well. The groundstaff are trying their best but they are not getting any help from the elements. No sunshine yet but the good news is that there is no rain as well.

09:05 Local Time, 03:35 GMT, 09:05 IST: One can see sun popping out for the first time since two days - only for a minute though. Almost all the covers have been removed. Only the pitch has been covered. The groundsmen are spraying sand on parts of the outfield. A few areas are really soft and the main area of concern is the bowler's run up. At the moment, the groundsmen are working hard to get things match-ready. In fact, the covers on the pitch are also being removed.

Yes! The rain has relented in the garden city. There was actually no rain since yesterday afternoon, but there was light rain early in the morning. All the puddles on the outfield have been removed. So we will surely have some action today, probably at least two sessions. Hopefully, the weather doesn't play spoilsport again as there is still a bit of cloud cover - not that threatening though. As we heard from the assistant curator, the umpires will have an inspection at 10:00. Anil Kumble on air reckons that play might resume after taking an early lunch. We'll wait for the official confirmation though.

Day 4: "If it doesn't rain from here on, we can hand the ground to the umpires by 10:00. We have three super soppers working on the outfield. There is a bit of water on the covers because of the early morning rain, but the outfield is in pretty good condition. As per the weather report, there is no cloud cover on the city," reckons Prashanth Rao, assistant curator at the Chinnaswamy. So that's great news folks!

Still two days to go in the game. A result looks highly unlikely at this stage. Play will begin 15 minutes early tomorrow as well - weather permitting of course. We will be there. Don't be disappointed too much that there wasn't a ball bowled in this game today. There is a brilliant Test going on at the WACA where New Zealand are playing Australia. Hop tabs to follow all the action. That's it for now from us here. See you tomorrow. Till then take care. Alvida!

11:31 Local Time, 06:01 GMT, 11:31 IST: And Ganesh comes up with this now - play has been officially called off for the day. Honestly didn't expect the umpires to call it off so early into the day. But they were left with no option I guess as the drizzle is steady and plenty of water is still on the ground. So two days lost due to weather and the forecast is more of the same for tomorrow. This Test looks doomed!

11:25 Local Time, 05:55 GMT, 11:25 IST: Our man Ganesh at the stadium got carried away by some random people walking in white shirts that he sent us this update - "The umpires are having a look out in the middle" - and then asked us to delete it. Still the rain hasn't stopped he says. Can't fault Ganesh for spotting people in white shirts and presuming they were umpires. He wants to see some action and so do we. But unfortunately the rain is having the final say

10:40 Local Time, 05:10 GMT, 10:40 IST: When I asked for an update from our man - Ganesh - at the stadium, this is what I got - "nothing much". Kept it nice and simple. Thanks Ganesh for that straightforward answer. Pretty much sums up things at the moment. The wait goes on

10:00 Local Time, 04:30 GMT, 10:00 IST: The rain isn't heavy. It's just a fine mizzle and it just doesn't stop. Plenty of puddles on the Chinnaswamy outfield. The drainage here is excellent, but how much more water can the ground take?

09:10 Local Time, 03:40 GMT, 09:10 IST: Rain, rain and more rain in Bengaluru. An early call has been taken by the umpires that there will be no play till lunch. It's that sort of a day in Bengaluru. It's cold, damp, chilly and the showers are unrelenting. While it's flooding the streets of Chennai, the after effects has meant rain - and plenty of rain has been lashing Bengaluru. The bad news is that a cyclone is just round the corner, and that promises more rain - at least for the next couple of days. It's fast turning out to be a damp squib - both AB's 100th Test and India's victory charge.

Day 3: Hello and a warm welcome to the third day of the Bengaluru Test. Not a single ball was bowled yesterday and the weather is no different today as well. It has been a wet morning in the garden city. The forecast isn't promising either. The pitch and a few areas on the outfield are protected. We are losing crucial time in the game. Let's hope that the weather is kind on us. For now, it's drizzling and there is no chance of play to start on time.

The inevitable has happened. Play has been called off and day 2 is a washout. The forecast for the next two days isn't great either. India were dominating after the first day, but will now be in a race against time if they envisage hopes of going 2-0 up. In order to make up for lost time, and that is a big if, play will start 15 minutes early for the remainder of the Test. It turned out to be a wet Sunday, hopefully we will start off tomorrow on a brighter note. Do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..

13:55 Local Time, 08:25 GMT, 13:55 IST: Ganesh says that the umpires are having a long chat with the groundsmen. The drainage at Chinnaswamy is excellent, but it has taken plenty of water today. The light isn't great either and neither has the rain stopped.

13:30 Local Time, 08:00 GMT, 13:30 IST: Ganesh is twiddling his thumbs at the ground and the news isn't the most encouraging. The rain just refuses to stop and play for the day might be called off anytime soon, he says.

12:30 Local Time, 07:00 GMT, 12:30 IST: Lunch has been taken. Unfortunately we did not have any action in the morning session. It is still very cloudy in the garden city and it is a pretty thick cloud cover as well. The lunch break is from 12:30 to 13:10, but it is highly unlikely that will have a prompt start post lunch even if the rain stops now. Fingers crossed!

12:15 Local Time, 06:45 GMT, 12:15 IST: Although we have almost lost a session, there is still a lot of time left in the game, especially with South Africa's first innings ending so soon. However, the worrying sign is that the weather forecast for tomorrow and day after isn't promising as more rain is expected. As I typed that, the rain has eased off now and is now down to a drizzle.

11:35 Local Time, 06:05 GMT, 11:35 IST: The rain is still steadily heavy says Ganesh from the ground. The umpires will most likely take an early lunch, but Ganesh adds that there is no official confirmation yet.

10:55 Local Time, 05:25 GMT, 10:55 IST: It's getting worse folks! Ganesh tells that the rain has gotten even heavier. He also thinks chances of play today look bleak as the forecast isn't all that good for the rest of the day.

10:40 Local Time, 05:10 GMT, 10:40 IST: Not great news folks! Ganesh has this update, "More covers come on as rain gets a little heavier." I am afraid that we might lose the entire morning session. Anyway, let's wait and watch.

10:25 Local Time, 04:55 GMT, 10:25 IST: Oh dear! Play was about to begin in 5 minutes time, but the covers are coming back on as the drizzle has returned. Meanwhile, the Indian players are playing a bit of football on the outfield. The fact that the players are still on the outfield tells you that the drizzle isn't that heavy, but good enough to play spoilsport at the moment.

10:09 Local Time, 04:39 GMT, 10:09 IST: Ganesh now with this update about revised timings for today. First session: 10:30 to 12:30. Second session: 1:10 to 3:10. Third session: 3:30 to 5:30. 90 overs scheduled in the day. Just an hour moved forward for each session.

09:55 Local Time, 04:25 GMT, 09:55 IST: Great news from our man - Ganesh Chandrasekaran who says if there is no further rain then play will start at 10:30 local time. There was an inspection and the covers were removed. Loud cheers from the crowd as the umpires came out for an inspection. So that's offical news now. Hope we get a start at 10:30

09:25 Local Time, 03:55 GMT, 09:25 IST: "Most of the outfield was covered earlier, but now only the critical areas have been protected. When I press the outfield with my toes, it is not really damp and soft. The outfield looks pretty. We just need the drizzle to stop. It's not looking too bad," says Sanjay Manjrekar.

09:10 Local Time, 03:40 GMT, 09:10 IST:: The start has been delayed. Play will not begin at 09:30 local time. As I type this, the drizzle has slightly picked up. Fingers crossed folks! Anil Kumble, who was earlier having a chat with the umpires, tells on air that the conditions are a bit damp. One can see the supper soppers at work trying to absorb the water on the outfield.

Focusing on the cricket, India are currently only 134 runs behind. South Africa's bowlers couldn't have asked for better weather conditions this morning. It's cool, it's overcast and the ball will swing for them. It is absolutely crucial that the Proteas have a good morning session to stay in the game. Otherwise, India could easily run away with the game. On the other hand, the hosts need to bat sensibly as the conditions are tailor-made for fast bowling at the moment. The pitch though is very good to bat and good application should give the batsmen a lot of runs.

Before we go any further, let's have a look at the weather. Unfortunately, it is not as good as yesterday. There was a bit of overnight rain and it has been drizzling very mildly in the garden city since morning. The sun hasn't made an appearance yet. So that tells you that it is quite cloudy. There is a bit of good news though. Ganesh Chandrasekaran pings me that the covers on the pitch are partially being removed and the umpires are out for an inspection. He adds that the pitch and the run up area is still protected. Remember, the drainage at the Chinnaswamy stadium is excellent.

Day 2: Right from the toss, to the the end of the day's play, Virat Kohli and his boys could do nothing wrong on the opening day. An excellent day at the office has now put them in command. First, the bowlers, led by Ashwin and Jadeja, did a wonderful job and then the openers - Vijay and Dhawan - continued the good work. How will things pan out today? Hello and a warm welcome to everyone for the second day of the Bengaluru Test.

So the first day went to India. Can South Africa bounce back strongly tomorrow to stay in the game? It has been a bit cloudly in Bengaluru and let's hope that the rain stays away as it did today. Join us back for all the Day 2 action at 09:30 local time. Goodbye!

When the Indians came out to bat, South Africa stuck to their strengths and the pacers operated for most part of the innings. Spin was introduced only during the fag end of the day. Amla certainly missed a trick there as the batsmen had settled in and attacked both Tahir and Duminy straightaway. Murali Vijay once again left the ball with ease and showed his class by essaying some crispy drives. The only time he lost his concentration was when he pulled one straight to Tahir on 21. He was lucky that Tahir made a mess of it. On the other hand, Dhawan, who had got a pair in the previous Test, finally managed to get amongst the runs. It was a pleasing sight for the Indian fans to see his feet moving. The pair has laid a solid foundation and put India in a formidable position after the end of the first day. The visitors might appear to be doomed but they would believe a fightback is possible.

AB de Villiers' purple patch continued. He missed out on a ton in his 100th Test but not before giving South Africa something to play for. He scored about 40 percent of the total runs and it speaks volumes about how heavily the Proteas are dependent on him. While de Villiers is piling on the runs, Faf du Plessis' third consecutive failure in the series are worrying signs for the tourists.

Sometimes the road less traveled takes you to a glorious place. Virat Kohli's decision to bowl today exemplifies that statement. It was only the first time since 1974 when a captain opted to bowl in Bangalore. And the Indian bowlers showed that they were on a mission to prove their captain right. However, contrary to Kohli's belief that his pacers would utilize the moist pitch, the breakthrough was provided by Ashwin. Jadeja followed his senior partner soon and both hunted down the African lions just after tea. The fact that the pacers, especially Ishant Sharma, bowled frugally and kept the pressure from the other end helped the spinners execute their plans perfectly.

The Indian dressing room looks very relaxed and why not. They've had an excellent day at the office.

He almost lost his trousers there, but quickly gets up as the ball still threatens to roll back, again dives and pulls it back in time. Manjrekar on air jokingly says, "good thing he was wearing something inside."

Short of a length pitching just outside off stump and moving away sharply from the right-hander, Vijay was looking to defend off the back foot, luckily for him it went well away from him. 15.5 - M Morkel to Vijay, no run, short of length delivery outside off stump, Vijay punches it off the back foot to cover

15.4 - M Morkel to Vijay, no run, oh dear! Imran Tahir has dropped a sitter. Hashim Amla can't believe it! It is quite clear, Vijay is not liking Morne Morkel's back of a length deliveries around chest height. This was a short delivery on the stumps, Vijay went for the pull, but mistimed it completely, Tahir at square leg didn't have to move an inch, it came slowly and he spilled it. He tried to take it on the second attempt, but couldn't. Easy catch, but put down. How costly is that going to be?

Drinks are on the field now. A dream start for India after bowling out South Africa for 214. Both Vijay and Dhawan have looked good. The biggest positive for India is that Dhawan is moving his front foot much better than the Mohali Test. South Africa desperately need some wickets as the run rate is very good too. How long before we see Tahir and Duminy in action?
