The 32-year-old speedster Dale Steyn will return to the Indian sub-continent in a week's time to play the Indian Premier League (IPL), but his decreased impact in the recently played WT20 makes one wonder if a big decision is around the corner.

Faf du Plessis, South Africa's T20I skipper, said in a post-match press conference,​

On the future of Dale (Steyn), I am not the guy to ask. I think you have to ask Dale that question. He looks hungry still. He still wants to play cricket. I don't think he's even thinking of retiring out of any format.

”

Due to recurring injuries, Steyn has endured a tough time in limited-overs cricket recently. South Africa endured a defeat early in the tournament. Yet, Steyn was resigned to the bench and did not play again till their hopes of making the semifinal came to an end ahead of their final group-stage game against Sri Lanka on Monday. Being away from the game for a long period seems to have altered Steyn's position in the pecking order for South Africa.

While he endured months on the sidelines, Kagiso Rabada, the strapping 20-year-old pacer, has made giant strides in limited-overs and impressed enough to be handed the role of leading the pace attack. South Africa will not play T20Is for a few months now so the fast bowler can regain his confidence and form by plying his trade with the red ball.
