Australia reclaims the No. 1 ranking in Test Cricket

Australia required only a draw to win the series and regain the top test ranking from India. But, the Aussies made sure that their accession to the top was triumphant.

Australia returned to the top of the test world rankings after Steve Smith and Adam Voges lead the tourists to a victory in the second test at Christchurch to whitewash New Zealand with a comprehensive performance in the two match test series.

The Aussies thrashed the hosts in the first test by an innings and 52 runs in Wellington last week, and sealed the second match by seven wickets shortly after lunch on the fifth and final day at Hagley Oval.

The Australian skipper Steve Smith lauded the team's performance by stating,

We want to win every series we play. We want to win a lot more away from home and that was a good start for us, we had a lot of patience in the way we played and all the guys are really confident in their skills.

Smith, who scored 138 in the first innings, ended the match on 53 not out, his 16th test half century. Voges hit the winning runs, a boundary through the covers to move to 10 and take the visitors to 201 for three.

Australia will stay at the top for a while considering the T20 season coming up.
