South African teams to be reviewed by four-person panel

South African Springbok winning captain Francois Pienaar has been appointed to be a part of a four-person panel, set up by Cricket SA (CSA) that will conduct an independent review of performances of all national teams.

The panel will be headed up by Dawn Mokhobo, who is the chairperson of the CSA HR Committee. The other members of the panel are Adam Bacher, a former Proteas opening batsman and Ross Tucker, a respected sports physiologist.

The panel will focus on the Proteas, who endured yet another underwhelming exit at the recently concluded World T20. The review will also examine the South African women’s team who failed to make an impact at the World T20.

The under-19 side will also be duly scrutinized after they failed to defend their World Cup crown in Bangladesh, after losing against Namibia and Zimbabwe.
CSA’s CEO Haroon Lorgat said,

After performing below expectation at the recent ICC WorldT20, it would be right for us to undertake an objective and thorough review of our national teams’ setup and performances.

In closing, Lorgat says that an analysis of the domestic cricket systems is already ongoing. “This focused review of our national teams will add important information to the current review on our domestic cricket systems which is already underway.”
