He was a star schoolboy cricketer.
In the 1970s, he achieved the double for Walsden- the first player to do so in the Central Lancashire league since Sobers for Radcliffe in 1961.
Many expected him to be successful at the Test level. That didn't happen.
Five years or so after this miraculous season with Walsend he became well-known.
