In "Cricket My Destiny" Walter Hammond described a journey from Perth to Adelaide in 1932-33.
One of the members of the team wrote home during the train journey: "Dear Father, this country is just hundreds and hundreds of miles of damn all, and then hundred of miles more of it."
Hammond's advice for anyone who had not traveled so many miles by train was simple: Don't.
