Champions Middlesex was keen to have Kapil Dev for the 1981 season.
But his contract with Nelson prevented that from happening.
They picked Jeff Thomson in his place.
Then Northants stepped in and asked Nelson for the release of their professional for midweek games.
That enabled Kapil to play county cricket in 1981.
