Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has been called back to Pakistan from England after failing a fitness test, just a few days before the Champions Trophy.
Akmal was earlier dropped from the squad for Pakistan's tour of West Indies but was recently recalled for the Champions Trophy.
PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said,
“
He has failed two fitness tests during the ongoing camp there in England ahead of Champions Trophy. So since we have a policy not to carry unfit players, it has been decided to call him back and send a replacement. We have a deadline until May 25 so we are deliberating on the possible replacements.
”
The player likely to replace Akmal is either Umar Amin or Haris Sohail.
In an annual assessment, Akmal had weighed 91 kgs with a fat-level reading of 115.6. Anything over 100 is considered to be unfit.
