ICC and the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed the appointment of the former South African fast bowler Steve Elworthy as the managing director for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Elworthy previously served as the tournament director for the ICC World Twenty20 tournaments in 2007 and 2009 as well as the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

Along with the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Elworthy will also oversee the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup which will be hosted by the ECB.

The 51-year-old will have a dedicated team based at Lord’s and will oversee the various aspects of the tournament such as logistics, cricket operations, marketing, security and volunteering.

ICC chief executive David Richardson praised Elworthy for his proven track record and is confident that he will deliver an “unforgettable event”.

He went on to add -

”

The chief executive of the ECB, Tom Harrison congratulated Elworthy for his appointment and said that he was perfectly qualified for the post.

Elworthy is keen to deliver an excellent tournament in 2019 and termed the opportunity as “the biggest and the best yet”.

Earlier, Elworthy also served in senior management positions with the ECB and Cricket South Africa overseeing marketing and communications.
