South African captain Faf du Plessis will take at least six weeks to recover from the lower back injury he suffered in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh. The skipper will not play any cricket, domestic or international, till December at the very least.
Du Plessis retired hurt while batting in the 1st innings against Bangladesh and did not take the field for the 2nd innings. In his absence, JP Duminy will lead the Proteas in the 2 match T20I series against Bangladesh.
Faf will also miss a significant portion, if not all, of South Africa's domestic T20 tournament, which has been brought forward to November in place of the T20 Global League. It seems likely that he will return in time for the Boxing Day Test against Zimbabwe, and he is thus far expected to play the touring India side that will visit in January.
