England have appointed Joe Root as the new Test captain of the England team.
After Alastair Cook stepped down as the Test captain last week, speculations were rife on who will be the new Test captain.
Root was made the vice-captain in 2015 and was offered the coveted role after Cook’s announcement.
Root expressed his happiness,
“
It is a huge honour to be given the England Test captaincy. I feel privileged, humbled and very excited. We have a very good group of players and I'm looking forward to leading them out in the summer, building on Alastair's achievements and making the most of our talents in the years ahead.
”
Ben Stokes has been announced as the vice-captain to Root.
Joe Root will get to lead the Test team in July in a series against South Africa and West Indies, before the big Ashes series.
