England pace bowling spearhead James Anderson has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for showing disrespect to the on-field umpire S. Ravi during the third day’s play of the third Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s.
ICC said in a statement -
“
England fast bowler James Anderson has received an official reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day’s play in the Lord’s Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
”
The incident occurred in Sri Lanka’s first innings after umpire Ravi asked Anderson not to indulge in sledging of Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath.
Umpire Ravi also spoke to the England vice-captain Joe Root, who was standing in for Alastair Cook after the Essex left-hander had gone to the hospital to undergo scans on his injured knee.
The charges against Anderson were laid by the on-field umpires Ravi and Rod Tucker, the third umpire Aleem Dar and the fourth umpire Michael Gough.
Since Anderson accepted the sanction handed to him by the match referee Andy Pycroft, there was no need to conduct a formal hearing.
