Glenn Maxwell Ruled Out of IPL

Australian batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is the latest player to be injured and head home from IPL 2016.  The Kings XI Punjab's (KXIP) batsman has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2016 due to a side strain.

Maxwell suffered the injury during Kings XI Punjab's last match, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. As a result, Maxwell has decided to head back to Australia and give himself time to recover from the injury well in time before the tri-series for Australia, to be played in the West Indies.

Australia’s support team physiotherapist David Beakley said-

Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following Sunday's match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour.

He also added that the injury did not appear to be serious enough to prevent Maxwell from participating in the Tri-Series but they wanted to give him enough time to recover. Maxwell is the second Australian to leave early from the tournament for KXIP. Earlier this month, Shaun Marsh was also ruled out due to a back injury.

Maxwell was not having the best of seasons in IPL 2016 with his bat. He could only manage 179 runs in 11 matches at an average of 19.88. KXIP have already been eliminated from the race of the playoffs but they would want to finish their season on a high by winning their two remaining matches against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Rising Pune Supergiants.
