Aussie all rounder John Hastings steps down from Tests and ODIs

Australia and Victoria all-rounder John Hastings has chosen to retire from Test and ODI cricket while recuperating from a recent back injury. The tall Aussie, who bowls fast-medium and is a handy lower order bat, will henceforth concentrate on T20 cricket.

Hastings played 29 ODIs, 6 T20s and a solitary Test for Australia. Apart from this, he has played for Durham and Worcestershire, as well as in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. He is currently the captain of Big Bash League side Melbourne Stars.

With shorter, less strenuous games and higher remuneration, T20 cricket appeals to many players who seek to make the most of their professional playing time. Hastings is just the latest in a number of players from around the world to become a "T20 mercenary."
