Angelo Mathews steps down as Captain from all formats

Angelo Mathews has stepped down as captain of Sri Lanka from all formats.

This comes after Sri Lanka's humiliating 2-3 loss against Zimbabwe in the ODI series.

Mathews has said after the series that it was one of the lowest points of his careers and that he wasn't sure whether he will continue to captain Sri Lanka.

Mathews was appointed captain after Mahela Jayawardene. He was captaining the side since 2012. He has led Sri Lanka in 34 Tests, 98 ODIs and 12 T20s.

But after Sri Lanka's decline in world cricket, including their early ouster in the Champions Trophy followed by a series defeat against Zimbabwe, Mathews took this decision.

Sri Lanka will next play a Test match against Zimbabwe, after which they will host India for a full series.
