Xavier Doherty and Adam Voges retire from Domestic cricket

Australian players Adam Voges and Xavier Doherty have announced their retirement from international as well as first-class cricket.

Both players announced their retirement at the end of the Sheffield Shield.

Doherty made the announcement after being omitted from Tasmania's team for the final round of the Sheffield Shield season.

He said,

Receiving my cap for Tasmania as a young 19-year-old was pretty special and to go on to be called up for Australia in 2010 and claim that Baggy Green was a surreal feeling.

The spinner has played 4 Tests, 60 ODIs and 11 Twenty20s. He will, however, be available to play the Big Bash League.

Voges also announced his retirement after playing 20 Tests, 31 ODIs and 7 Twenty20s for his country.

He said,

This season has been particularly physically and mentally tough, after being left out of the Test team and no longer having the carrot of international cricket to strive for. After 15 years of first-class cricket, my mind and body have been pushed to their limit. I have given my all to WA cricket.

He too plans to continue playing for Big Bash League and English county cricket.
