Sarfraz Ahmed named Pakistan's new T20 captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board has named Sarfraz Ahmed as the new captain of the national T20 team. Sarfraz's appointment has come after Shahid Afridi gave up his captaincy earlier this week after Pakistan failed miserably in the just-concluded T20 World Cup in India.

Sarfraz was appointed vice-captain of the ODI and T20 teams last year. The 28-year-old wicketkeeper batsman was one of the most reliable batsmen for Pakistan in the Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh in February-March.

PCB chairman Shahryar Khan said,

I spoke to Sarfraz this morning and conveyed to him that he was our natural choice for this position. His appointment is open-ended. I wish him good luck in his new role.

After Pakistan’s dismal display at the T20 World Cup, the team has been hit with a no. of resignations. First, Shahid Afridi resigned from captaincy and then Waqar Younis gave up his role as the coach of the team. The selection committee of PCB has also been dissolved.
