West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul on Friday announced retirement from international cricket.

The 41-year-old, who has been ignored from the Test squad for quite some time now, scored 11,867 runs in Tests which is just 87 runs short of the West Indies all-time record holder Brian Lara.

The veteran left-hander made his debut against England in March 1994, in his native Guyana, where he made a half-century as the West Indies won by an innings and 44 runs.

Chanderpaul last played a Test for West Indies in May 2015, a match which his team won by five wickets to level a three-Test series against Alastair Cook`s side.

After that series, he was left out of Windies' 14-member squad for the Australian tour where the Denesh Ramdin-led side played two Tests.

Chanderpaul`s highest score in Tests was 203 not out and he finished his career with an impressive average of 51.37.

The gutsy left-hander also has top score of 150 in ODIs, finishing with an average of 41.60.
