Chris Silverwood, extremely successful head coach of Essex, will be the new bowling coach for the England national team, filling the spot vacated by Ottis Gibson. In his two years at Essex, Silverwood oversaw their promotion from Division 2 in 2016, and topped that by comprehensively winning the Division 1 County Championship in 2017.
At the moment, former New Zealand pace great Shane Bond is set to act as bowling consultant to the English team till the second Test of the Ashes in Australia. Silverwood is expected to take up the role of bowling coach once the Ashes are over.
Alastair Cook, former England captain and current opening batsman, played 7 games for Essex this season so the new bowling coach will have at least one friendly face in the English dressing room.
