Chandimal to return in the second Test match against India

Sri Lanka’s newly appointed captain is expected to lead the side in the second Test against India at the SSC. He missed the first Test at Galle due to illness (pneumonia).

Asanka Gurusinha, Sri Lanka's cricket manager said,

Dinesh should be fit, he actually played this (Sunday) morning and he has batted the last couple of days.

Rangana Herath who suffered a finger injury in the first Test is a major doubt for the second Test which starts on August 3.

Gurusinha said that,

We have to see how he is going to come up in the next couple of days because his finger is pretty sore,  we will give him till the last minute to make sure that he is fit.

Danushka Gunathilaka who made a Test debut in the first Test against India is likely to be dropped out when Dinesh Chandimal returns.

Sri Lanka have another spot to fill as Asela Gunaratne has been ruled out of the series against India. They need to pick either Dhananjaya de Silva or Danushka Gunathilaka.

Sri Lanka suffered a heavy defeat of 304 runs at the hands of India in the first Test at Galle. Sri Lanka might consider adding players from outside the current squad if they require.

The second Test match between Sri Lanka and India will start on August 3 at SSC Colombo.
