Southee to begin with two slips.

The players are making their way out to the middle. It's bright and sunny. All the dark clouds have disappeared.

17:08 Local Time, 16:08 GMT, 21:38 IST: Play will resume at 17:30. England's revised target will be 192 in 26 overs.

16:54 Local Time, 15:54 GMT, 21:24 IST: It has stopped raining and it looks much brighter as well. We should have a restart for sure this time. In fact the sun it out, which is great to hear. Umpires are having an inspection.

16:42 Local Time, 15:42 GMT, 21:12 IST: Oh no! Not great news, the drizzle is back. The covers are back on. It doesn't look threatening though.

16:25 Local Time, 15:25 GMT, 20:55 IST: Great news folks! The rain has stopped and the covers are coming off. I assume that, if it starts in about 20 minutes, we will have 35 overs.

16:20 Local Time, 15:20 GMT, 20:50 IST: Looks like the rain has eased a bit. The sky is also said to be a slightly brighter. So that's great news.

16:10 Local Time, 15:10 GMT, 20:40 IST: As we wait for the rain to clear, let's take a look at England's likely targets by D/L method: 159 in 20 overs, 186 in 25 overs, 211 in 30 overs, 232 in 35 overs, 251 in 40 overs. Looks like we will lose at least lose 10 overs even if it stops raining now.

Meanwhile, former England cricketer Graeme Swann has tweeted this. "The rain at Durham seems well set in. Hope it doesn't wash out the game, this series has been too good to finish with a damp squib." Fingers crossed folks!

15:46 Local Time, 14:46 GMT, 20:16 IST: Oh dear! The rain is playing hide and seek. The umpires were making their way to the middle but the drizzle returned. We will lose overs now.

15:40 Local Time, 14:40 GMT, 20:10 IST: The rain has stopped again and the game will resume at 15:49, weather permitting. No overs have been lost.

15:36 Local Time, 14:36 GMT, 20:06 IST: This is frustrating. The drizzle has returned and so have the covers. We will start losing overs in a few minutes now.

15:23 Local Time, 14:23 GMT, 19:53 IST: The drizzle has stopped and the covers are coming off. Play will resume at 15:40.

15:17 Local Time, 14:17 GMT, 19:47 IST: Not great news folks! Just as the groundsmen were removing the covers, the rain returned. The delay continues. However, it is not heavy and should clear shortly.

15:06 Local Time, 14:06 GMT, 19:36 IST: Good news is that the drizzle has stopped and the covers are coming off. The chase will start in another 15 minutes.

14:58 Local Time, 13:58 GMT, 19:28 IST: Unfortunately, due to a drizzle, England's innings won't start on time. The groundstaff have covered the ground with covers. The rain isn't heavy though.

Wheeler though, played a handy innings to lift the sagging spirits in the camp. In the final over of the innings, he thumped Finn for two sixes and a boundary. The track is offering enough help for the pacers and it isn't exactly coming onto the bat. So, it can turn out to be a tricky chase. However, if the batsmen play with a calm head on their shoulders, the hosts have a good chance of usurping New Zealand for a series win.

England's pacers put up a disciplined effort, but some late order hitting by Ben Wheeler took the visitors to a good total. The likes of Steven Finn, Ben Stokes and David Willey found enough movement in the air and off the track to keep the opposition ranks on their toes. Adil Rashid, the leg-spinner, too made his presence felt by prising out a couple of batsmen. The trio of Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor essayed handy knocks, but couldn't convert it into a big score. Grant Elliott, who has chipped in with timely knocks in the recent past, also lost his wicket at a crucial juncture of the innings.

Ben Wheeler 39(28) Andrew Mathieson 0(0) Finn 10-0-73-2

49.6 - Finn to Ben Wheeler, SIX, Wheeler signs off in style. This is an excellent innings and will lift the mood in the dressing room. Once again Finn tries to follow Wheeler, but the batsman is able to get under it, muscles the loft over long-on and clears the rope. 22 runs off the over, just what New Zealand wanted going into the break. The visitors have managed to score 32 runs off the last two overs

49.5 - Finn to Ben Wheeler, SIX, this is turning out to be a great innings from Wheeler. Full and following the batsman again, Wheeler plays a powerful flick shot, he was off balance while meeting with the ball but manages to time it sweetly to clear deep mid-wicket

49.4 - Finn to Ben Wheeler, FOUR, Wheeler moved early to the leg-side, Finn tried to follow him with a slower ball bumper, but Wheeler was good enough to guide it over the keeper. These are handy runs for New Zealand

Andrew Mathieson, right handed bat, comes to the crease

49.3 - Finn to Matt Henry, out Caught by Stokes!! This doesn't have enough legs and Stokes makes no mistake at long-on. Run-out check has been sent upstairs. Southee is the man in question. "That looks fine, I am going to give that Not Out," says third umpire Steve Davis.

43.5 - Willey to Southee, no run, short of length delivery outside off stump, Southee guides it to backward point

Fullish and angling across the right-hander, the ball just moves away as well, Taylor goes hard at the drive, gets a thick outside edge, the keeper moves to his right and snaffles it with both hands. Taylor lost his balance as he tried to play that ball. David Willey's family is absolutely happy in the stands as they celebrate the wicket. In fact, this is a big scalp as Taylor is in great form and he was key to New Zealand getting those 15-20 extra runs towards the end. Ross Taylor c Bairstow b Willey 47(63) [4s-2]

0.6 - Finn to Brendon McCullum, out Bowled!! Steve Finn has been impressive in this series and he's got a big wicket for England in the very first over. This is a great response from the bowler after being hit for a six. Back of a length delivery outside off stump, probably it jagged back off the seam, McCullum hops in the crease and tries to force it through the off-side, gets a thick inside edge and it crashes into the stumps. This is just the start England wanted after opting to bowl. Brendon McCullum b Finn 6(4) [6s-1]

Finn to Brendon McCullum, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!

0.5 - Finn to Brendon McCullum, SIX, here he comes, Brendon McCullum. Good length delivery outside off stump, McCullum advances down the track and also gives himself a bit of room, it was right in the slot and he muscled it hard over long-on for a maximum. What a way to open your account

So that concludes a really hard fought series. England's next assignment is the Ashes, which begins on July 8. I am looking forward to it. There's a lot more cricketing action before that though. Tomorrow, Sri Lanka take on Pakistan in what could turn out to be an interesting final day's play in Galle, while Bangladesh lock horns with India in the second ODI. Looking forward to your company then. Take care! Goodbye!

Series summary:

In a series that had its share of thrills and spills, it was England, who came out victorious by winning a humdinger at Chester-le-Street. It was the hosts, who played with a positive intent in the first game at Edgbaston to amass a monstrous score and their bowlers backed it up by putting in a disciplined effort to overcome their fancied opponents. New Zealand played with zeal and vigour at The Oval to level the series 1-1.

The visitors then, surged ahead by winning the third game. However, the home team yet again played out of their skins to chase down a massive total of 350 in the fourth encounter and to put icing on the cake, they clinched the series in a cliffhanger in the final match. There were some impressive performers. Kane Williamson touched fabulous peaks and compiled almost 400 runs. Mitchell Santner gave a glimpse of his enormous potential by taking crucial wickets and essaying quick-fire cameos. Eoin Morgan led from the front for England by playing thrill-a-minute knocks. Steven Finn and Adil Rashid showed their wares with the ball in hand. After a disastrous show in the World Cup, England will take a lot of heart from this series win. At the other end of the spectrum, New Zealand were slightly below par especially, their young bowlers struggled to make an impact.

Morgan walks towards the trophy, picks it up and celebrates with his team-mates. Paul Farbrace congratulates his boys from the dressing room. The England players now pose for the cameras with the trophy.

Morgan: "We had some incredible cricket played over the five games. Credit to New Zealand, they played very well. Lot of people in our side put their hands up and performed. The attitude and the skill level has been extremely high. The support here has been magnificent and we managed to play some entertaining cricket as well. It was a combined effort from the boys. I think there's a great feel-good-factor going around cricket at the moment. So let's hope that we maintain that support going into the Ashes."

McCullum: "It's been a tremendous series. The cricket that we've seen in the last five games was nothing short of spectacular. This pitch wasn't all that quick, but we were happy with the score we had. Credit to England, they held their nerve when it mattered. Our guys will learn a lot from this series. We need to work as a team and we are excited about that. We've got some tremendous talent. Cricket in our country is in a good space at the moment. This was a very tight series."

Williamson: "It was an unbelievable series. England were outstanding and they deserved all that they achieved for the style that they played with. Overall it is a great series to be part of. I try to form partnerships with the guy at the other end. The pitches have been very good for batting. It's made for great viewing and it was really to nice to spend a bit of time."

Kane Williamson is the Man of the Series for scoring 396 runs.

Bairstow: "It's a fantastic feeling. To come back and win it for England is special. To make a contribution with the gloves and the bat was great. This is for these guys, they've worked really hard. We knew we needed to take it deep and it worked for us. I am pleased with my performances in all formats. I had a pretty tough time family-wise. My Grandpa passed away, so that wasn't great. But to do well here is good and this one is for him."

Bairstow is the Man of the Match for his 60-ball 83

Earlier in the day, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson essayed handy knocks to take the visitors to a good score. Ben Wheeler also made an impact with a useful contribution in the slog overs. In the end though, England just about held their nerve to usurp their formidable foes.

With Jason Roy too losing his wicket, England found themselves in deep trouble. However, Bairstow and Sam Billings kept the home team in the game. With Matt Henry prising out Billings, the visitors again were in the ascendancy. But, in a match full of fluctuating fortunes, Bairstow and Adil Rashid played with a calm head on their shoulders to take them past the finish line. The visitors didn't help their cause by dropping Bairstow a few times. In fact, Santner, who had a great day, dropped a sitter at third-man to give Bairstow a reprieve.

Riding on the back of Jonny Bairstow's sparkling innings, England registered a thrilling victory to clinch the series 3-2. After persistent drizzle resulted in England having to chase down a revised target of 192 runs in 26 overs, the hosts lost the plot as they lost a slew of wickets up front. Brendon McCullum's move to open the bowling with Mitchell Santner paid rich dividends as he snared the key wickets of Alex Hales, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan.

Bairstow gets a great round of applause from the crowd. He raises his bat as he walks off the field. A lot of English fans are dancing in the stands and why not!

Bairstow has his hands aloft in joy as he runs back for the second, the England players hug each other in the dressing room. This is a fantastic series win for 'New England'. This is England's first ODI series victory at home since 2012 as well. 8.1 - Andrew Mathieson to Jason Roy, out Caught by Guptill!! Wow! Andrew Mathieson gets an ODI wicket first ball on debut. Nothing shot from Roy and England are 45/5 now. Nothing ball in fact from Mathieson. Short of a length delivery just swinging away outside off stump, Roy was initially looking to cut, but for some reason checks his shot, probably he was foxed by the late outswing, it certainly wasn't a slower ball, in the end the ball balloons to the left of backward point, where Guptill runs back and takes a good catch. He's on a hat-trick as well. Gee, what a move by McCullum. Nothing great about this ball though. Just a flighted delivery right in the slot around off stump line, Morgan, in trying to unsettle the bowler, mistimes the slog and deep mid-wicket moves to his right and accepts the low offering. 1.2 - Mitchell Santner to Hales, out Caught by Williamson!! That is a stunning catch by Williamson. Short ball, deserved to be put away, Hales rocks back and pulls well, but doesn't control it, hits it in the air, Williamson jumps high at square leg, goes one-handed and plucks it with his left hand.
