The meeting with PCB chief Shahryar Khan, scheduled to be held in Mumbai today, may be moved to Delhi, said BCCI sources.
The all-important meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to decide the future of India-Pakistan cricket ties has been cancelled following a protest by Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena workers raised slogans against BCCI president Shashank Manohar and waived black flags at the BCCI headquarters.
Security has been increased at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai after the protest. The agitating workers have been detained and taken to a nearby police station.
Sources said that there's no information yet on whether the talks have been rescheduled and the meeting may take place on a later date at a different location.
It was also not confirmed whether PCB chief Shahryar Khan was inside the BCCI office at the time of the protest.
According to Mumbai Police, Khan has been provided with adequate security cover.
Reacting to the incident, BJP leader and former cricketer Kirti Azad said that everyone has the right to protest but it should be done in a decent manner. "I am sure Manohar is sensitive to the issue that we have maintained that terror and talks will not go together. We have all the right to protest but vandalising and ink attacks not acceptable," he said.
Meanwhile IPL chairman and senior BCCI functionary Rajeev Shukla condemned the attack, saying that cricketing decisions should be left to BCCI.
Khan and head of the PCB's executive committee Najam Sethi arrived in India on Sunday in a bid to convince the BCCI to confirm the bilateral series in December.
Khan and Sethi were expected to meet Manohar and Secretary Anurag Thakur along with other government officials.
"The trip is being made on the invitation of Shashank Manohar who took over as the new Indian cricket chief," a official in the PCB said.
Khan had also discussed the planned series with Thakur on the sidelines of the ICC meeting in Dubai.
