Jason Gillespie appointed as interim PNG coach

Former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie has been named as the interim coach of Papua New Guinea (PNG) for a period of 12 months.

Gillespie was recently named the head coach of Australia A who were about to tour South Africa. However, due to pay disputes between Cricket Australia and Australia Cricket Association there will be no cricket for the Australians and therefore Jason Gillespie's new job as interim coach will be just for a short period.

The former Aussie bowler's first job will be when PNG will be playing the Australian Indigenous Team and and Queensland XI. PNG will be playing Scotland in October in the World Cricket Championship which will help the winning side to qualify for the ICC World Cup in 2019.

Jason Gillespie has replaced Dipak Patel as the PNG coach and PNG will be hoping that they qualify for the World Cup in 2019 under the experience of Jason Gillespie.

I'm really excited about it, as much to have another cricketing experience with another team and another country. It broadens my experiences and broadens my learning and hopefully it will hold me in good stead going forward. I'm just excited to see how these guys go about their work. I've heard a lot of very good things
