BCCI announce Indian squad for Champions Trophy

The Indian squad for the Champions Trophy has been announced.

The squad is more or so the same combination that India have been going with for a while.

Rohit Sharma returns to the squad after an injury that has kept him away from international cricket since October 2016.

Mohammad Shami also makes a comeback after having last played in 2015.

Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane have been included in the squad despite poor form.

Names like Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Dinesh Karthik, Shardul Thakur and Suresh Raina were tossed up during the meeting for the selection of the squad but ultimately, the selectors found it best to go with the tried and tested squad.

The chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said,

We are completely impressed with Rishabh Pant. But he missed out because of squad combination. We will groom him for the future. Pant, Raina, Kuldeep, Thakur and Karthik are in our standby list for the Champions Trophy.

There was a lot of uncertainty on whether India will be participating in the Champions Trophy due to a rift between BCCI and ICC but ultimately it was decided that India will participate

Indian Squad for Champions Trophy:

Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Manish Pandey.
