Kolkata Knight Riders appoint Laxmipathy Balaji as bowling coach

Kolkata Knight Riders have named former India pacer Laxmipathy Balaji as their bowling coach ahead of the 2017 Indian Premier League.

The Indian veteran has taken over the role from the Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram for the upcoming edition of IPL.

He was an integral part of KKR’s bowling line-up from 2011 to 2013, and contributed to the team’s victorious campaign in 2012.

Balaji has retired from first-class cricket in September 2016, but he still remains associated with the Tamil Nadu team as its bowling coach.

On his new role as bowling coach of KKR, Balaji said:

I had thoroughly enjoyed my stint as a player for KKR and I am delighted to be back to the franchise that I have admired.

KKR have won the IPL twice and were knocked out in the Eliminator stage in last year's IPL.

The 2017 IPL is set to begin on April 5 with the final scheduled for May 21.
