Australia XI for Boxing Day named

Australian skipper Steve Smith has named an unchanged playing XI for the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Zimbabwe born all-rounder Hilton Cartwright, who was brought in to the squad, will have to wait for his Test debut.

Struggling batsman Nic Maddinson has been given another opportunity. He has just scored five runs in the three innings he played since his debut.

Australia won the first Test by 39 runs.

Smith said,

We brought the allrounder into the squad because the bowlers had a pretty heavy workload but they've pulled up well and they're confident they can get through. Obviously (Nic) hasn't started the way he would have liked. I was really proud of him in the second innings in Brisbane to come out and do the thing for the team and try and score quick runs and have a crack.

Australia XI: David Warner, Matthew Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith (c), Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird, Nathan Lyon.

Pakistan XI: Sami Aslam, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Younis Khan, Misbah-Ul-Haq (c), Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Yasir Shah, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan.
