Melbourne Stars to lose allrounder John Hastings after his knee injury in Sheffield Shield.
After his scans were confirmed, he is required to undergo surgery on his injured right knee.
Cricket Australia physio Alex Kountouris said there is no estimated timeframe for Hastings' recovery yet, but it would likely be a long time before he is fit to play again.
Hastings hurt his knee playing for the Bushrangers in their round five Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania, forced to leave the field when he landed awkwardly after delivering his 19th ball in the Tigers' second innings.
The KFC Big Bash league's Technical Committee have approved the allrounder's replacement in the Melbourne Stars squad with fellow Victorian Jackson Coleman. Under the playing conditions, Hastings would be eligible to return to the Stars once he recovers.
Stars head coach Stephen Fleming said,
“
John is such an important man to have around the Club. We're all really disappointed that he can't join us on the field this season, We hope that, following surgery, he'll be around to help the younger players and play a mentor role during his recovery.
