Former Sri Lankan bowler Chaminda Vaas has been appointed Sri Lanka’s fast-bowling consultant. 

His new role will be to travel around the country and identify and develop fast-bowling talent rather than on working specifically with the national team. 

Aravinda de Silva, the chairman of the board’s cricket committee stated,

“

When I spoke with Vaas, he was very keen. We feel he will be really good working with some of our young cricketers, from the grassroots levels. He'll work with fast bowlers from around the country, identify talent, get them in to work with the under-19, development and A team squads, which feed into the national team.

”

He further said, “We have to develop teams to win outside the country… not just on turning wickets, but to win in Australia on those fast wickets,”

Vaas has previously coached Sri Lanka from 2013 to 2015 and has also coached New Zealand and Ireland.
