New Test deal for Gabba

Cricket Australia has announced a deal to play at least one Test at the Brisbane venue until the end of the 2018-19 summer, as well as an ODI or T20I each season for the next three years.

This is bound to be unwelcome news for Australia's touring opponents as the Aussies have not lost a Test at the Gabba since 1988. It is because of this fact that the nickname "The Gabbatoir" has been given to the venue for touring teams.

The deal will start with the summer’s day-night Test against Pakistan in December which will be the first day-night Test at the Gabba. Following this, it will host an Ashes Test in 2017-18 and one more Test in the 2018-19 campaign.

Cricket Australia High Performance manager Pat Howard said-

Australia’s record at the Gabba has been exceptional and the fact we remain undefeated at the Gabba since 1988 underlines that record.

He also added that Australian players always look forward to a Gabba Test and that they were all very excited to be a part of the first Gabba pink ball Test and play in front of what is expected to be a massive Gabba crowd.
