Aqib Javed Resigns As UAE Coach

Aaqib Javed, former Pakistani fast bowler has resigned as the UAE coach. It is being tipped that he has been approached for the position of
Director of Cricket Operations of the Lahore Qalandars, a Pakistan Super League franchise. He signed a coaching contract with UAE in 2012,
where he replaced fellow Pakistani Kabir Khan.

His tenure as coach  proved successful for the young and emerging team as it gained ODI and T20I status and also qualified for the 2015 World Cup.
Under his coaching, UAE also qualified for the 2016 Asia Cup as well as the first round of the 2014 World T20 which was their first appearance in
any world stage match since the 1996 World Cup. Confirming his resignation, Javed expressed his wish to return to Pakistan. He said-

I think I have done great with the team and now I don't see anything left for me to do. They have the ODI status, played cricket at the highest level against big teams, and now it's just a repetition and I don't want to do it again. So I decided to move on and try something different.

Javed has been coaching since the last 10 years. He started with the Lahore Regional Cricket Academy followed by his tenure with the Pakistan
Under-19 side and his appointment as the head-coach of the National Cricket Academy of Pakistan. The 43-year-old also served the Pakistan national
team as bowling and assistant coach between 2009 and 2012.

Now, however, he has expressed his desire to coach a top side. He mentioned that gathering together a broken team like the UAE and getting them to
play together was a new experience and it motivated him but now he was ready to try something new such as being the head-coach of a full Test playing
nation.

Lahore Qalandars executive Atif Rana, on the other hand, said that it was only partly true that they had approached Javed for the said position.
He did confirm that they were interested in signing him but added that there are a lot of discussions left before they formally announce any
such decision.

Aqib Javed played for Pakistan from 1989 to 1998. He has 54 Test wickets and 182 ODI wickets. He was also an important part of Pakistan's 1992
World Cup winning squad.
