Over: 50 1 4 6 1 1 1 IND 309/3
Rohit 171(163) Ravindra Jadeja 10(5) Boland 10-0-74-0

49.6 - Boland to Rohit, 1 run, Boland signs off in style with a yorker outside off stump, Rohit tried to squeeze it through the off-side, got an inside edge rolled towards the on-side

49.5 - Boland to Ravindra Jadeja, 1 run, low full toss on the stumps, can't do much about it, Jadeja drives it past the bowler to long-on

49.4 - Boland to Rohit, 1 run, very full and outside off stump, Rohit went hard on the drive, but it went off the bottom of the bat and rolled towards long-off

Change of bat for Rohit

49.3 - Boland to Rohit, SIX, another full toss, the third full toss Boland has bowled to Rohit Sharma in his last two overs and all three have been muscled by the Mumbaikar for maximums! Rohit went deep in the crease expecting a yorker, but Boland offered him a gift, Rohit went over long-on and that went a long way beyond the rope. Looks like Rohit has broken his bat with that shot

49.2 - Boland to Rohit, FOUR, top edge and looks like it has gone all the way? That's cruel for the bowler. No, it has just landed in front. Low full toss outside off stump, Rohit went down on one knee to sweep, got a top edge and it flew over Wade and almost went for a maximum. 300 up for India

49.1 - Boland to Ravindra Jadeja, 1 run, full and on the stumps, Jadeja drives it along the ground to long-off

Last over of the innings. How many can India get?

Over: 49 1 W 4 3 1 1 IND 295/3
Ravindra Jadeja 8(3) Rohit 159(159) Faulkner 10-0-60-2

48.6 - Faulkner to Ravindra Jadeja, 1 run, once again full and wide from Faulkner, Jadeja square-drives it to sweeper cover, wants two but Rohit wasn't keen

48.5 - Faulkner to Rohit, 1 run, why did you just go for a single there Rohit Sharma? Full and in the slot again, Rohit drove that with one hand to cover

48.4 - Faulkner to Ravindra Jadeja, 3 runs, the widish yorker, but Jadeja reaches out and squeezes it out through point, the fielder dives but it escapes. Now they are rushing back for the third run as well. Great running by Jadeja, he pushed his partner there

48.3 - Faulkner to Ravindra Jadeja, FOUR, Jadeja opens his account in style! Poor delivery! Full and in the slot, Jadeja slogs hard and sends it over wide mid-on for a boundary

Ravindra Jadeja, left handed bat, comes to the crease

48.2 - Faulkner to Dhoni, out Caught by Boland!! Good catch by Boland. In fact the replay shows that even though he went with two hands, he took it with his right hand. Short of a length delivery from Faulkner, probably the slower delivery from the all-rounder, Dhoni mistimed the pull, more from the bottom of the bat, the fielder at mid-wicket dived to his right and plucked it out of thin air. This could make a difference of 10-15 runs to the final total. Dhoni c Boland b Faulkner 18(13) [4s-1 6s-1]

Faulkner to Dhoni, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

Rohit Sharma is now the fastest to score 1000 runs in ODIs against Australia. He got there in 19 innings. Got it ahead of Tendulkar and Lara

48.1 - Faulkner to Rohit, 1 run, short of length delivery on the off stump, Rohit mistimes the pull wide of long-on

Over: 48 1 6 1 1 6 1 IND 285/2
Rohit 157(157) Dhoni 18(12) Boland 9-0-60-0

47.6 - Boland to Rohit, 1 run, another good yorker, but those two low full tosses have spoilt the over. Rohit squeezes it out into the off-side. A 16-run over for India

47.5 - Boland to Rohit, SIX, Boland is getting his yorkers right to MS Dhoni, but he's bowling low full tosses to Rohit Sharma. Another low full toss and Rohit goes downtown over long-on, for a moment it looked as if he was going to pick the fieldsman out in the deep but it cleared him

47.4 - Boland to Dhoni, 1 run, wonderful yorker from Boland, dug out towards mid-wicket, Dhoni wanted to two but Rohit sent him back

47.3 - Boland to Rohit, 1 run, widish yorker outside off stump, Rohit reaches out and drives it along the ground to sweeper cover. 150 for Rohit and he gets a good round of applause from the crowd

47.2 - Boland to Rohit, SIX, now he's missed the yorker and that's a juicy low full toss, Rohit waits for the ball to come and flicks it away nicely from the middle of the bat, the ball clears the mid-wicket fence quite comfortably. He moves on to 149 with that hit

47.1 - Boland to Dhoni, 1 run, fine yorker from the 26-year-old, Dhoni could only dig it out towards wide mid-on, the fielder in the deep rushed and prevented the second run

Scott Boland [8.0-0-44-0] is back into the attack

Great over for India. 15 off it. 3 overs to go and 31 more for 300! Boland comes on now. Remember, he's been picked for his ability to bowl perfect yorkers at the death. Bowling to Dhoni is going to be a challenge for him. Let's see how it goes!

Over: 47 1 6 0 1 Wd 4 2 IND 269/2
Rohit 143(153) Dhoni 16(10) Faulkner 9-0-50-1

46.6 - Faulkner to Rohit, 2 runs, short of length delivery on the off stump, Rohit turns it to backward square leg and they race back for the second

46.5 - Faulkner to Rohit, FOUR, gee! Innovative hit from Rohit and he's connected well. Good length delivery angling in around off stump line, Rohit moved across the stumps and scooped it over the infield, fine leg was back near the rope but he was too square

Third man is inside the ring

46.5 - Faulkner to Rohit, wide, Faulkner tries to follow Rohit as he goes leg-side, but this was well past him and called a wide

46.4 - Faulkner to Dhoni, 1 run, Faulkner goes short and down the leg-side, Dhoni tries to pull it fine, but mistimes it to fine leg

46.3 - Faulkner to Dhoni, no run, short of length on the off stump, Dhoni pushes it to cover

46.2 - Faulkner to Dhoni, SIX, in the airrrr and that's gone all the way! Faulkner misses his length by a yard or so and that was in the slot for the skipper to tee off. He went over long-off with the lofted drive after jumping out of the crease and picked up a maximum

46.1 - Faulkner to Rohit, 1 run, excellent bowling, Rohit exposed all three sticks as he backed away, from round the wicket Faulkner followed the batsman with a short of length delivery, Rohit could only punch it towards cover-point

Over: 46 0 1 1 2 1 1 IND 254/2
Rohit 136(150) Dhoni 9(7) Hazlewood 10-0-41-1

45.6 - Hazlewood to Rohit, 1 run, back of a length outside off stump, Rohit late-cuts it to the right of third man, probably the second run was on, but they don't go for it. Rohit must be a tired man, remember, he's batting on 135

45.5 - Hazlewood to Dhoni, 1 run, Dhoni wanted to slap hard, but he hit this along the ground to sweeper cover

45.4 - Hazlewood to Dhoni, 2 runs, Finch fumbles and Dhoni races between the sticks like a rocket and even completes the second run so easily. Gee! That was quick running from the skipper. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Dhoni cuts it straight to backward point, yet manages to keep strike

45.3 - Hazlewood to Rohit, 1 run, ramped over what would have been a normal first slip position, but third man is fine and he fields the ball

45.2 - Hazlewood to Dhoni, 1 run, short of length delivery on the leg stump, worked towards deep square leg, they think about two, but decide against it

45.1 - Hazlewood to Dhoni, no run, Wade takes the catch down the leg-side and throws the ball up in the air thinking Dhoni is out, Hazlewood appeals but umpire Richard Kettleborough was unmoved. Dhoni was going nowhere as well. Top call Kettleborough! That was off the thigh pad. Short of a length delivery down the leg-side, Dhoni missed the fine pull on that occasion, it was so close to taking the glove there

Over: 45 0 1 W 0 4 1 IND 248/2
Dhoni 5(3) Rohit 134(148) Faulkner 8-0-35-1

44.6 - Faulkner to Dhoni, 1 run, good length delivery on the leg stump, Dhoni waits for the ball to come and glances it down to fine leg. He'll keep strike with that single

44.5 - Faulkner to Dhoni, FOUR, now round the wicket and Faulkner loses his radar. Short and on the leg stump, don't bowl short to Dhoni. He's good with his pull/hook! Dhoni swivels and pulls it fine, long leg was very square and he was not even in the picture. So the Indian skipper opens his account in style

44.4 - Faulkner to Dhoni, no run, short of length delivery outside off stump, Dhoni wants to cut hard, only manages to toe-end it to cover

MS Dhoni, right handed bat, comes to the crease

44.3 - Faulkner to Kohli, out Caught by Finch!! That is an unselfish shot in the 90s and Kohli has holed out. He wanted to hit a maximum and long-on moved to his left to take a good catch. Full ball from Faulkner, Kohli advanced and hit it very hard, the timing was so good, just that it didn't have enough height on it, the fielder was close to the rope there, but he did well to take it calmly. So that ends a terrific 207-run stand and a magnificent knock from India's No. 3. He gets a good ovation from the crowd as he walks off as well. Kohli c Finch b Faulkner 91(97) [4s-9 6s-1]

Faulkner to Kohli, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

44.2 - Faulkner to Rohit, 1 run, in the air, but safe! Lady luck is on Rohit Sharma's side. Rohit jumped out of the crease and got into an awkward position to loft this short of length delivery, he wanted to muscle it back over the bowler's head/mid-on, but hit him high on the bat and lobbed just behind the unmanned mid-off region. The fielder in the deep rushed, but it dropped well in front of him

44.1 - Faulkner to Rohit, no run, slower delivery from round the wicket, bowled wide outside off stump as well, Rohit tries to cut but made no contact with the ball

James Faulkner [7.0-0-29-0] is back into the attack

Six overs left. India need 58 more to get to 300. Can they do it?

Over: 44 0 1 1 1 0 2 IND 242/1
Kohli 91(96) Rohit 133(146) Hazlewood 9-0-35-1

43.6 - Hazlewood to Kohli, 2 runs, this is right on the stumps, but Kohli moves across the stumps and then works it through backward square leg for a couple

43.5 - Hazlewood to Kohli, no run, oh what was that? Just 137kph but it looked like 150! Short of a length delivery just outside off stump, probably it hit the seam and bounced alarmingly, Kohli was trying to dab, was too quick for him and he was beaten all ends up. Great bounce there for Hazlewood

43.4 - Hazlewood to Rohit, 1 run, Rohit moves leg-side to go big, but Hazlewood follows him with a short of length delivery and cramps him for room, in the end Rohit could only guide it to backward point

43.3 - Hazlewood to Kohli, 1 run, this length ball is easily tucked through backward square leg

43.2 - Hazlewood to Rohit, 1 run, oh he went for the pull over mid-wicket there, but only managed to bottom-edge it along the ground to the fielder at the edge of the circle. It was short and Rohit was on the back foot to play the shot, but he couldn't get the timing right

43.1 - Hazlewood to Rohit, no run, good length delivery outside off stump, Rohit drives and finds the man at cover

Over: 43 4 0 Wd 4 1 1 0 IND 237/1
Kohli 88(93) Rohit 131(143) Mitchell Marsh 9-0-53-0

42.6 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, no run, Kohli works this back towards the bowler

42.5 - Mitchell Marsh to Rohit, 1 run, yes, no, but in the end all is well for India. Rohit hopped and tried to flick, got an inside edge onto pad, Rohit waited for a while as the ball stayed on the pitch, but Kohli was always keen for the single and he made it home easily

42.4 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, 1 run, the 200-run stand - highest 2nd wicket stand for India against Australia in ODIs. Kohli tucks this towards mid-wicket for a single and then shakes hand with his partner for their wonderful partnership

42.3 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, FOUR, down the track and then lofted over cover, not from the middle of the bat but enough wood on it to escape to the boundary. Can't bowl length at this stage of the innings, Kohli stepped out and got close to the pitch of the ball, played the lofted cover-drive and cleared the infield

42.3 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, wide, Marsh bowls the slower ball bumper, too high and well above Kohli's head

42.2 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, no run, this is the bumper from Marsh, Kohli tries to ramp it over Wade but misses

42.1 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, FOUR, poor delivery from Marsh. The attempted off-cutting slower ball goes horribly wrong as it goes short and wide outside off stump, Kohli cuts hard and hits it through cover, the man sweeping on the off-side had no chance

Over: 42 4 0 1 0 1 0 IND 226/1
Rohit 130(142) Kohli 79(88) Hazlewood 8-0-30-1

41.6 - Hazlewood to Rohit, no run, oh that was in the slot to be put away, Rohit swung hard as he tried to slog, lost the bottom hand grip and it went off the toe-end of the bat. It was in the air for a while, but dropped short of the man at short mid-wicket

41.5 - Hazlewood to Kohli, 1 run, short and wide, asking to be put away and Kohli should have done better with it. He had to hit it more squarer and this went straight to sweeper cover. He tried to slap hard, but mistimed it completely

41.4 - Hazlewood to Kohli, no run, Kohli moves across the sticks and tries to work it on the on-side, misses and the back of a length hits him high on the thigh pad

41.3 - Hazlewood to Rohit, 1 run, easily guided down to third man

41.2 - Hazlewood to Rohit, no run, short of length delivery outside off stump, Rohit cuts and finds backward point

41.1 - Hazlewood to Rohit, FOUR, now that is a wonderful shot! Elegantly done by the centurion. With third man so square, Rohit waits for this short of length delivery to come, opens the face of the bat at the last moment and guided it past the keeper to begin the over in style. This was a shot he was trying to play against Hazlewood earlier, but he couldn't connect. Now he's got a boundary

Josh Hazlewood [7.0-0-24-1] is back into the attack

Over: 41 0 1 1 1 1 0 IND 220/1
Kohli 78(86) Rohit 125(138) Mitchell Marsh 8-0-42-0

40.6 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, no run, beaten! Great over at this stage of the game. Just 4 singles! Short delivery on the stumps, Kohli backed away and then tried to pull, looked for a moment that he saw it late and the ball sneaked past the bat

40.5 - Mitchell Marsh to Rohit, 1 run, this is turning out to be a good over, Rohit works this towards mid-wicket, just a single again

40.4 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, 1 run, Kohli was lining himself up for a big hit by making some room, but Marsh took pace off the ball and kept the batsman came, just guided along the ground towards third man

40.3 - Mitchell Marsh to Rohit, 1 run, back of a length delivery from wide of the crease, Rohit softly tucks this to mid-wicket for an easy single

40.2 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, 1 run, enough width on offer outside off stump to guide it down to third man

40.1 - Mitchell Marsh to Kohli, no run, now that's great bounce for Marsh. Short and around the off stump line, Kohli goes for the pull, misses, the keeper had to jump to collect that

Mitchell Marsh [7.0-0-38-0] is back into the attack

Over: 40 0 4 4 0 0 4 IND 216/1
Rohit 123(136) Kohli 76(82) Boland 8-0-44-0

39.6 - Boland to Rohit, FOUR, yorker just missed! Bowls a full toss to Rohit who smokes it for a one-bounce four over long leg fence, Faulkner tried to fling that back but it was too far from his reach

39.5 - Boland to Rohit, no run, toe-smashing yorker from Boland, Rohit manages to dig that out

39.4 - Boland to Rohit, no run, drives this full delivery to mid-on

39.3 - Boland to Rohit, FOUR, cardinal sin! Bowling it on the pads to a batsman who is batting on 115. Easy peasy for Rohit who flicks to the fine leg fence, long leg sprints across to his right but to no avail

39.2 - Boland to Rohit, FOUR, Rohit has loosened up now! Try and keep him calm, if you can. Jeez! He looks so good when he's timing the ball that well. Gets across a tad and lifts this over mid-on, couple of bounces and into the fence

39.1 - Boland to Rohit, no run, back of a length angled into the stumps, tucked straight to the man at mid-wicket

Over: 39 0 1 0 6 0 1 IND 204/1

38.5 - Joel Paris to Rohit, no run, defended from the crease

38.4 - Joel Paris to Rohit, SIX, there's a catch - in the crowd though. Well done mate, he took it with both hands! Rohit stood still and dispatched this length delivery for a 82-metre six over long-on, no one moved

38.3 - Joel Paris to Rohit, no run, rises on his toes and bunts this back towards the bowler

38.2 - Joel Paris to Kohli, 1 run, shortish stuff outside off, Kohli's angled dab is placed wide of backward point, good enough to steal a single

38.1 - Joel Paris to Kohli, no run, length delivery targetting the stumps, Kohli gets an inside edge onto his body, trying to work it towards mid-wicket but was late on the shot

Over: 38 1 1 0 1 1 1 IND 196/1

37.5 - Boland to Rohit, 1 run, fuller on the stumps, Rohit flicks aerially over mid-wicket and hustles for an easy single

37.4 - Boland to Kohli, 1 run, Australians aren't learning. They keep bowling on the pads and Kohli keeps ticking them off, another single to mid-wicket

36.4 - Joel Paris to Kohli, 1 run, hangs back and glides this down to third man

36.3 - Joel Paris to Rohit, 1 run, there it is! Rohit Sharma - the first Indian to score an ODI ton at the WACA. Guides this short of length delivery down to third man. Takes his helmet off, has his arms aloft and acknowledges the thunderous applause from the WACA crowd, gets a pat on the back from Virat too. So Rohit starts 2016 with a ton then

36.2 - Joel Paris to Kohli, 1 run, a bit shortish outside off, punchily pushed towards long-off

36.1 - Joel Paris to Kohli, FOUR, straightaway the debutant offers a candyfloss. Down leg and all Virat needed to do was get some bat on that, tickled fine and way she goes into the fence

Right then! Time for drinks. Rohit Sharma is just one short of becoming the first Indian batsman to notch up an ODI ton at the WACA. He couldn't have asked for a better 2016 starter. Virat at the other end looked as solid. Might be eyeing yet another ton that lad. He might as well want to improve his ODI average against Australia (in Australia).

The ball gets deflected off the stumps and rolls away towards the fine leg fence, the man from third man gets across, puts in the dive and saves a boundary. The Indians could manage just an extra run in the meantime. Kohli wasn't too happy with Rohit there, he wanted at least one more run but Rohit was a little slow

5.4 - Joel Paris to Rohit, 1 run, signs of uneven bounce? It certainly looked like so. Rohit was on the back foot looking to run this down to third man, he was surprised by the extra bounce, gets it off the splice of the bat wide of the slip cordon, crosses over for a single

5.3 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, 1 run, angled into the pads, Dhawan tucks wide of mid-on for an easy single

5.2 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, FOUR, this one's going to the boundary. Fullish and outside off, Dhawan gets a good stride forward and creams the drive past extra cover for his first boundary

5.1 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, no run, "shoooooooot" applauded a couple of my elated colleagues but much to their disappointemnt it went straight to the fielder. Full and in the driving zone, driven straight to the fielder at mid-off, the timing was sublime

4.4 - Hazlewood to Dhawan, no run, length delivery on the pads, Dhawan gets an inside edge as he tried to work that towards the leg-side. Mitch Marsh at square leg gets across to his left, goes for the ball but loses his footing, does well to stop it despite slipping

4.3 - Hazlewood to Dhawan, no run, back of a length on and around off, Dhawan gets forward and punches with soft hands towards short cover. Bailey comes forward to field that, flinged back to the bowler

4.2 - Hazlewood to Dhawan, no run, another one that's in the corridor of uncertainty and Dhawan shoulders arms

3.4 - Joel Paris to Rohit, SIX, "He plays that shot better than any other Indian batsman in the current line-up" lauds Harsha on air. Isn't he right? He in fact is. It's Rohit's trademark - pull shot that is. Short one at the batsman, Rohit gets into position early - swivels and pulls handsomely over the long leg fence

3.3 - Joel Paris to Rohit, no run, fullish outside off, Rohit's well-timed drive is fielded by the floppy-hat George Bailey at cover

3.2 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, 1 run, a bit too straight from the debutant, Dhawan tucks in front of mid-wicket and hustles for a quick single

1.4 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, no run, bouncing nicely from a good length, the line is well outside off though and Dhawan judges well, left alone to the keeper

1.3 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, 2 runs, shot! On a length and ample width on offer, Dhawan drives through cover and is off the mark with a couple of runs

1.2 - Joel Paris to Dhawan, no run, shortish and wide, Dhawan cuts but finds the fieldsman at backward point

Welcome back for the chase. The last time India were playing ODIs in Australia, it was in the World Cup. There, they used the short ball to good effect. Actually, the pacers were quite instrumental with it. Their bowling attack is not quite the same with Shami and Mohit nowhere to be seen. Will be interesting to see if the same ploy is adopted. Finch and Warner are out there looking hungry. Looking to be fed some. Here's the debutant from round the wicket..

Meanwhile, Mitchell Johnson is doing a lap around the WACA with his daughter to loud cheers from his zillion fans. Perth remembers its favourite son. It remembers all those triumphs. All the brutality. Anyway, coming to the cricket, India should be full of belief. Onus is now on the hosts to meet fire with fire. The pitch is a good one. Coming on nicely. And I reckon we have a match on our hands. Join us in half an hour.

The duo went about their business nonchalantly and started racking it up with effortless ease with both trying to match the other. Far too many half-vollies driven to the fence, cuts flayed over the field, and those nice wristy whips on display as well. The platform was laid for a death-overs hurrah with a 207-run stand - the highest ever for the second wicket (for India against Australia). Despite Kohli selflessly holing out in the 90s for the team's cause, Rohit stood firm and blazed away to an undefeated 171 eventually shepherding India to over 300.

There weren't any monster-balls. Or a lot of rip-snorters. In the absence of an injured Starc, the retired Johnson, or someone like Pat Cummins, Australia's quicks weren't quick enough. Just seemed to lack that venom which used to be indigenous to this country. Weren't the Indians happy? Rohit Sharma stood there embodying his usual grace, intermitted with some kamikaze strokeplay and showed once again why he is such a brilliant ODI player. It's wasn't him alone though. After Dhawan was inevitably bounced out, Virat Kohli strode out like a man with a purpose. And played like one.

Australia have bowled their overs on time. Rohit Sharma gets a great ovation from the crowd as he walks off the field and he's congratulated by Jadeja.

For now, this is Sidhant Maheshwari, signing off on behalf of Mani, Bharath and my co-commentators, Sagar Chawla, Raju Peethala, Pradeep and Ramakrishnan. See you on Friday folks!

That's it from us then! After this run-fest at the furnace, the action now shifts to the Gabba, considered by many as the fastest and the bounciest pitch in Australia (contrary to the popular opinion that it's WACA). The Indians though will definitely have their task cut out when they face the Aussies in the second ODI on Friday. Will the hosts continue their march and take a 2-0 lead? Or will the Indians bounce back to level the series? We'll have to wait till Friday for all the answers. Don't forget to join us then to catch all the action from that game.

Steven Smith is the Man of the Match for his 135-ball 149

He displayed all strokes in his armoury and looked as if he was batting on a different planet. Although the Aussie skipper mistimed a few, the Indian fielders too helped his cause by serving short stuff. To aggravate matters, Indian fielding was below par barring Bhuvi's well-judged catch at long-off. Despite losing Bailey and Big Show Maxi towards the end, it was a job too easy for Smith and the local boy (Mitch Marsh). Dhoni would surely be a worried man with the Indian spin-twin show, who both leaked in excess of 6 runs-per-over.

Crikey! Fun apart. When Rohit and Kohli recorded the highest stand for the second wicket (against Australia), an optimistic Indian fan would have sensed an Indian victory, but it wasn't to be. Smith and Bailey too notched up a 200 plus-run stand between them, making it the first time that the game has seen two 200-run partnerships in an ODI. Barinder Sran showed glimpses of good future as the lanky left-arm pacer consumed the Aussie openers with his subtle variations. Bailey, who was strangled down leg first ball (the umpire didn't spot the glove on that though) went on to pile on the runs with a flurry of fluent strokes and good running between the wickets. Do I really need to speak about Smith? I better choose not to.

In case you've just joined us, wondering how on earth did India lose this match, despite Rohit bludgeoning 171 and India recording their highest ODI score versus Australia in Australia. Well! Let me keep it simple for you. India have been STEVENSMUMTHED - if I'm allowed to say so. With all due respect to George Bailey who too played a crucial hand in making the target look easy. Jeez! Smithy just loves batting against India. During the last summer when he was making merry of Indian bowlers, he told this to one of his team-members: "They are not going to get me out mate! Not this summer." They did get him out today, but not before he recorded his highest ODI score and bailed Australia out of trouble.

49.2 - Barinder to Faulkner, 1 run, Australia win by 5 wickets! They take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series! Pitched up on middle stump line, Faulkner gently drives it down to long-on for an easy run. The players walk off after shaking hands with each other

49.2 - Barinder to Faulkner, wide, slower ball that goes down the leg-side, Faulkner gives the charge but fails to tickle it fine past the keeper, the umpire signals a wide and scores are level now

James Faulkner, right handed bat, comes to the crease

49.1 - Barinder to Smith, out Caught by Kohli!! Ohh dear! Smith is a disappointed man as he misses out on his 150 by a solitary run. Nevertheless, it has been a brilliant knock from the Australian skipper. Walks back to a standing ovation from the crowd, waves his bat around to soak in the applause. Coming to the ball, it was the off-pace delivery from Sran, completely outfoxed Smith, who pushes at it with hard hands, ends up spooning it straight to Kohli at short cover. The easiest of catches for him. Out comes finisher Faulkner. Smith c Kohli b Barinder 149(135) [4s-11 6s-2]

End of an excellent innings from Bailey and end of an excellent 242-run stand as well. Short of a length delivery on the leg stump, Smith works it behind square and gets to his milestone. Gets a great applause from the crowd and he raises his bat, before shaking hands with his partner

37.6 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, 1 run, short of length delivery outside off stump, Smith guides it to third man

37.5 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, 2 runs, poor stuff from India. Dhoni let this throw go through thinking someone was backing up, but Kohli was not there and Smith gets an extra run. Full and on the leg stump, Smith clips it away to long leg, should have been a single, but the overthrow gets his back on strike

37.4 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, FOUR, way too short and on leg stump line as well, Smith swivels and pulls behind square on the on-side, Umesh Yadav gives chase from fine leg, but he had too much distance to cover

37.3 - Bhuvneshwar to Bailey, 1 run, freebie, length delivery on the leg stump, worked through square leg and we have the second 200 partnership of the day

37.2 - Bhuvneshwar to Bailey, no run, good length delivery on the off stump, Bailey blocks it to short mid-wicket

37.1 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, 1 run, short of length delivery on the off stump, Smith misses the flick, the ball takes the inside edge and rolls to point off the thigh pad

Drinks are on the field now. These two are emulating what Rohit and Kohli did for India. At the moment, they look inseparable and Australia are cruising, needing 91 off 78 balls. With Maxwell, Marsh, Wade and Finisher Faulkner to follow, practical sense would say that Australia are firm favourites. However, we've seen many miracles in this game of cricket and Dhoni and Co. desperately want one at the moment. You can concede runs, but you can't spray the ball around like how they have today and that will be Dhoni's biggest worry.

36.6 - U Yadav to Smith, leg byes, 1 run, that's a wild slog across the line and he misses, hit in line with the sticks, but the WACA bounce was taking it over the stumps. Would have been out on many other grounds. The impact was on middle stump and it rolled towards third man off the thigh pad

36.5 - U Yadav to Smith, no run, now the bumper from Umesh, Smith backed away and then tried to ramp it over the keeper but missed it

36.4 - U Yadav to Smith, 2 runs, slower delivery outside off stump, can't say that Smith had this under control, went a little early into the drive and then waited for a second to send it past backward point. Credit to him though for not hitting it in the air

36.3 - U Yadav to Bailey, 1 run, Bailey taps with soft hands, the ball rolls towards Dhoni, but Smith was quick to call for a single

36.2 - U Yadav to Smith, 1 run, now that was bowled at 138kph, but Smith was so still and just opened the face of the bat at the last moment to guide it to third man and made it look as if that came at 100kph

35.3 - Bhuvneshwar to Bailey, 1 run, once again tapped towards short cover

35.2 - Bhuvneshwar to Bailey, 2 runs, Bhuvi is Bailey's best friend now, this was just a single, but the bowler, in view of a run-out concedes an extra run and helps Bailey to get to his hundred. 3rd ODI hundred for Bails! He raises his bat and acknowledges the applause from the crowd. No great celebration from him. Just a raise of the bat and he gets a hug from his skipper. Good length delivery just outside off stump, Bailey taps it to the left of the bowler, Bhuvi has a needless shy at the striker's end and misses the sticks

13.4 - Ravindra Jadeja to Smith, 1 run, prods across to a delivery given more air, bunts it through the cover region

13.3 - Ravindra Jadeja to Bailey, 1 run, flatter and on the stumps, Bailey hangs back and punches it down to long-on

13.2 - Ravindra Jadeja to Bailey, no run, pushed through the air, skids on from a length outside off, driven to extra-cover

12.5 - U Yadav to Smith, no run, back of a length delivery just outside off, Smith aims a punch through the off-side, chops it onto his pads off the inside edge

12.4 - U Yadav to Bailey, 1 run, Bailey is in pain, still called through for a non-existent run, and has to put in a full length dive. A direct-hit and he was gone! Yadav bowled a grenade which spat on the batsman from a short of length, pounded his gloves and rolled towards backward point. Jadeja took aim and rifled the throw but missed

12.3 - U Yadav to Bailey, no run, back of a length delivery wide of off, Bailey taps it to mid-off

11.5 - Rohit to Bailey, SIX, and bang! Unless Rohit pulls out a pipedream in the last ball, safe to say this move to bring him on hasn't worked. Bailey sees the flight, ventures down and launches it straight back. Way over the sight-screen she goes

11.4 - Rohit to Smith, 1 run, sits back to a rank long-hop and swats it to deep mid-wicket. Must be chastising himself for missing out

10.4 - Barinder to Bailey, no run, now Bailey opts to ride the bounce and fend this off into the off-side

10.3 - Barinder to Bailey, FOUR, another one! Someone have a chat with the debutant. Tell him how it's all been tried before. Tell him how it's all disappeared before. Short of length and pulled hard. This time through square leg

Bailey is employing a very strange stance here. Way too closed. So much so that his front foot is on off-stump while the back-foot is outside leg.

9.4 - Bhuvneshwar to Bailey, no run, all back of a length from Bhuvneshwar after that first ball. Punched to cover

7.2 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, no run, back of a length delivery outside off, a flat-footed defence towards cover

7.1 - Bhuvneshwar to Bailey, 1 run, this is just bizarre. Pandemonium at the WACA. There could have been atleast three run-outs here. In the end, there was none. Punched straight back, Bhuvneshwar bends low to get fingertips on it. Misses the stumps and rolls down to mid-on. The fielder misses the stumps at the non-striker's end as a single is attempted. Needed a direct-hit to catch Smith short at the keeper's end which wasn't possible. Got it?

5.5 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, wide, another very, very short ball. He's banging it too far down while going for the bouncer

5.4 - Bhuvneshwar to Smith, 2 runs, lovely square drive. Nowhere near a half-volley. Smith plonked across and hit it on the up through the point region. Easy couple before its hounded down

4.5 - Barinder to Bailey, no run, what's happened here? Dhoni doesn't look convinced and there is only an enquiry about a strangle down leg. Back of a length on leg-stump, Bailey swivels across looking to help the jab fine, late on the shot and the ball takes some glove through to the keeper. Hot-Spot has come up with a mark. And Bailey is very, very lucky
