Welcome back.. Yesterday Karachi Kings couldn't defend 126 against Quetta Gladiators. They have two runs more today, but can they restrict Islamabad? Who have already thrown a surprise by promoting Andre Russell to open the innings. A slight delay as the bowlers landing area is taking a pounding from the groundsmen. Amir is back and has the new ball. All ready now and off we go...

Excellent finish from Azhar Mahmood. He's been drafted in for an injured Shane Watson and has done an excellent job in his first game for the new franchise. Such a pro. Plies his trade all around the world and is omnipresent these days. Coming to the innings, well, they were strangled right from the start. Misbah opened the attack with spin from either end and it fetched him a couple of wickets upfront. On a pitch where shot-making is not a very fruitful profession, Bopara continued his good form and got engaged in the rebuilding process along with Mushfiqur Rahim. The duo put on 60 runs for the fourth wicket and ensured that Karachi don't fall off the cliff. But their untimely dismissals at a time when they should have been accelerating has allowed Islamabad to take the momentum into the break. I won't say it's a doddle, but it's very gettable. We shall soon find out..

Shoaib Malik 7(11) Shakib 7(6) A Mahmood 4-0-22-1

19.6 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, can't finish with a flourish. Looks to slug a slower length ball across the line and drags it in front of deep mid-wicket

19.5 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, no run, slower short ball which is widely propagated these days. Sticks in the pitch and never arrives due to which Malik is through with the pull. Gets it off the toe of the bat and dies on the half-volley in front of Haddin

19.4 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, byes, FOUR, follows Malik with a full delivery, manages to beat his slog and nutmeg him. But wait on, Haddin has failed to gather as well. Such a shame for Mahmood

19.3 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, no run, what an exceptional first half of the over it's turning to be. Might have been a slower ball and beats Malik's swing for the lack of pace

19.3 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, wide, now attempts a bumper and digs it a bit too short. Gets it to loop over Malik's head

19.2 - A Mahmood to Shakib, 1 run, another very full ball which is brilliant at this stage. Shakib can't get under it and drills it to long-off

19.1 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, now Mahmood is down. The Islamabad United bowlers need to be wrapped in cottonwool. They are just collapsing. Cannons it into the blockhole before tumbling and Malik squeezes it down to long-on

Looks like all is not well with Russell actually. He's leaving the field

Shakib 6(5) Shoaib Malik 5(6) A Russell 3-0-25-1

18.6 - A Russell to Shakib, FOUR, Shakib swings a full 360 degrees and gets the ball in a completely diagonally opposite direction than originally intended. This length ball skims off a thick outside edge over short third man

18.5 - A Russell to Shoaib Malik, leg byes, 1 run, slippery length ball angled into the pads, Malik slogs and misses and collects a leg-bye behind backward point

18.4 - A Russell to Shakib, 1 run, slammed into the blockhole and Shakib can only squeeze it down to long-on. Russell tried to dive across to stop but lost his footing as his boot skidded on. Could have been ugly but he looks alright to continue

18.3 - A Russell to Shakib, no run, walks well across outside off in response to which Russell bangs it short. It was there to be pulled away fine as Shakib managed to get inside the line. But just couldn't connect as he was beaten for pace

18.2 - A Russell to Shakib, no run, good variation. Slower off-cutter which nips away on a back of a length and bounces spongily over the bat as Shakib looks to dab it fine

18.1 - A Russell to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, not the yorker which one might expect at this stage. Bowls a brisk short of length delivery around off which Malik whips with powerful wrists to deep mid-wicket

Over: 18 1 1 1 W 1 1 KRK 113/5
Shoaib Malik 4(4) Shakib 1(1) A Mahmood 3-0-18-1

17.6 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, slower and fuller just outside off, Malik waits after prodding forward and drives it through the covers

17.5 - A Mahmood to Shakib, 1 run, back of a length delivery just outside off, chopped beside the pitch via an inside edge onto pad

Shakib Al Hasan, left handed bat, comes to the crease

17.4 - A Mahmood to Bopara, out Caught by Asif Ali!! Amin is a relieved man. His drop earlier in the over has not cost anything much at all. Bopara actually hits this well. Picks the short ball early and nails the pull. However, much to his dismay, he picks out deep square leg who makes no mistake. Bopara c Asif Ali b A Mahmood 45(50) [4s-4]

A Mahmood to Bopara, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

17.3 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, Malik glides a short of length delivery wide of backward point to hand it back to Bopara

17.2 - A Mahmood to Bopara, 1 run, Mahmood must have patted himself on the back after getting the better of Bopara, dropped it short on seeing him give the charge, Bopara can only swat it high off the bat down towards long-on. A sitter of a catch which Amin makes a hash of

17.1 - A Mahmood to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, Mahmood feeds length to his compatriot, he tries to heave it away but can only drag it along the carpet to deep mid-wicket

Over: 17 6 0 1 1 W 1 KRK 108/4

16.6 - A Russell to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, skidding on from a back of a length just outside off, dabbed to third man

Shoaib Malik, right handed bat, comes to the crease

16.5 - A Russell to Rahim, out Bowled!! Rahim's stumps have been clattered. Backed away slightly to slog a full ball into orbit. Lost his shape and couldn't lay any bat onto it. On second glance, it is eveident that the ball tailed back in slightly as well which contributed to Rahim's downfall. Middle and leg stump take a pounding. So, Sami's injury has at least some up-side for Islamabad. Rahim b A Russell 33(27) [4s-2 6s-1]

A Russell to Rahim, THAT'S OUT!! Bowled!!

Andre Russell [2.0-0-18-0] is back into the attack

He's gone off the field actually, and Russell will complete the over.

16.4 - Sami to Bopara, 1 run, Sami is down on the ground clutching his toes. He stuck his leg out to stop a Bopara bazuka, manages to do so but hurts himself in the process. Pitched it right up and Bopara didn't hold back. Stood there and hammered it hard. Must be throbbing, his leg

16.3 - Sami to Rahim, 1 run, moves leg-side and then has to put on a stretch to cut this past backward point. Couldn't generate any power though and can only collect a single as sweeper cover rushes across

16.2 - Sami to Rahim, no run, has a waft at a shortish ball outside off but cannot connect

16.1 - Sami to Rahim, SIX, Rahim has picked his spot over short fine leg. And hang on. It's gone all the way. Walked well across outside off to get inside the line of a length ball and scooped it right off the middle

15.4 - A Mahmood to Rahim, 1 run, advances down to a short of length and chops it in front of backward point

15.3 - A Mahmood to Rahim, FOUR, flogged behind square. Spearing in on middle and leg, Rahim swings it across the line and gets the boundary which he hopes would help him break the shackles

15.2 - A Mahmood to Rahim, 2 runs, short of length delivery on off, Rahim pulls it wide of long-on. Timed it sweetly despite not being able to extend his arms

15.1 - A Mahmood to Rahim, 2 runs, loopy slower ball, which almost lands in the yorker length, Rahim squeezes the drive wide of sweeper cover for a couple

Bopara 42(46) Rahim 16(18) A Russell 2-0-18-0

14.6 - A Russell to Bopara, FOUR, driven handsomely wide of long-off. This time, it's not full enough and enables Bopara to get under the inside-out loft

14.5 - A Russell to Rahim, 1 run, moves leg-side one more time against a length ball and drags his slog off the inside half of the bat behind square

14.4 - A Russell to Rahim, no run, and again. Nice, quick and full just outside off, Rahim hammers it along the carpet to extra-cover

14.3 - A Russell to Rahim, no run, backs away to a length ball, swings across the line and misses. Wasn't far away from the leg-stump

14.2 - A Russell to Rahim, no run, very full just outside off, Rahim can't get under it and drills it to mid-off

14.1 - A Russell to Rahim, 2 runs, backward point gets a nasty bounce as Rahim's square cut kicks off the turf and bounces over him. They decide to go through for the second and make it fairly easily. Had the throw originally been at Bopara's end, it could have been close. But as it was, by the time Haddin collected and gunned down the stumps at the non-striker's end, Bopara was home

12.4 - Rumman Raees to Bopara, 1 run, patted in front of cover-point for a quick single

Islamabad United have qualified for the knock-out stages. So, only one spot left and it is between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars. The second game is between the top two sides - Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi. Switch tabs and catch all the action. For now, goodbye from here...

Misbah: In the end it is a good win. The youngster Asif played well to take us home. It was a crucial time (talking about his dismissal) and he really should his promise. The bowlers bowled really well and it is a confidence booster for us. When you go to the knock-out stage, you need just one good day to reach the final. We have to always have the hope. He (Russell) wasn't getting many overs and so we sent him up the order.

Malik: I am used to it now (referring about him being on the losing side). Even before this game we were in a desperate position. But we have another opportunity in a couple of days and we will try to do well. We are losing most games in the first six overs, be it batting or bowling. That is the area we need to improve.

Khalid: I am very happy. The captain and team management had given me plenty of confidence before this match. It is difficult to grip the new ball, but I have done it before in domestic cricket. It felt nice to put the base by scalping two wickets at the start. If you think about taking wickets, you will take wickets. I know what are my strengths and I bowl accordingly.

Imran Khalid is the Man of the Match for his figures of 2/19.

A crucial win for Islamabad United, keeps their hopes alive in the tournament. Coming into the game without Shane Watson, the bowlers responded to Misbah's decision to bowl first - restricted Karachi Kings to 128. Russell was promoted to open the innings in Watson's absence, the Jamaican couldn't do much. Haddin too departed early. Latif and Misbah were left with the repair work. The pair managed to put on a 50+ stand, but it was Asif Ali's cameo which saw them through.

18.5 - Mir Hamza to Asif Ali, SIX, Islamabad United win by 5 wickets. The players in the dugout are on their feet. Wasim Akram is clapping. What a way to finish the game! The players shake hands.
