The Twenty20 SquadStats comparison is pretty much the same as a normal ODI SquadStats comparison, except for the change in format. For the uninitiated, here's requoting what Squadstats is.
Shorn of all detail and put in a very simple, straight cut manner, Squadstats comparisons basically evaluate players on the value they add to their team's overall performance. So basically, it involves comparing players performing similar roles in their teams. It looks to answer questions such as this: Who adds more value to their respective side - Kumar Sangakkara or Brandon Mc'Cullum? To repeat ourselves, 'Squad Stats' concerns itself with the performance of a team as a whole. Simply put, it is an attempt to introduce a statistical tool which analyses a squad rather than each individual player. Squad stats is completely based on this concept that many have heard of but few have thought about - 'Team Averages' . This is where it all begins. Like with the original ODI Player Comparisons, the Twenty20 comparisons also look to only add a new 'dimension', a new 'perspective' to the whole debate. There never are any straight answers with questions such as this, and claiming to provide any probably only amounts to lying. One of the key points of differentiation, however, are the parameters used for comparison. The skills and abilities required for Twenty20 vary, to some extent, in importance as compared to the skills and abilities required for an ODI game. For instance, the player's average plays a more important role in ODI's, whereas in the 20 over format, it is the strike rate that makes a bigger difference. This is an important factor that needs to considered while analyzing and evaluating players. This, in a nutshell, is the broad background of Twenty20 Player Comparison. Things will get clearer as we move on and take a look at some of the comparisons done.
