League stage highlights
Group A
The first major casualty of the tournament. Bangladesh yet again played with great spirit and confidence to knock out another major Test playing team- the West Indies. The Windies had to face the media fury back home once again as Bangladesh and Proteas made it to the next round.
Group B
An early Zimbabwean victory over Australia saw one of the most exciting games of the tournament, and left the Aussies facing the threat of getting knocked out in the first round itself. But England did Australia two favours - they won comprehensively against Zimbabwe and lost bitterly to the Aussies themselves, edging out the promising Zimbabweans.
Group C
The simplest of the groups, Sri Lanka and the Kiwis made it to the next round without a repeat of the Kenya-antics from 2003. With only one exciting match, the Kiwi and Lankan followers had to wait for the next round for more exciting cricketing stuff.
Group D
The most dramatic of all the groups, India rose from the rubbles of moving out of the tournament thanks to an unfortunate washed out game against Scotland to grabbing one of the most exciting cricket finishes ever. Following an extraordinary Bowl-Out finish, India and Pakistan moved into the next round to give the world another exciting India-Pakistan World Cup game after a long time.
