Mohammed Shami, the 26-year-old Indian bowler played the first three tests of the series but missed the fourth in Mumbai with a sore knee and has been advised rest and rehabilitation.
The Indian selectors had named paceman Shardul Thakur as a back-up for Shami for the Mumbai Test.
Wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel replaced Wriddhiman Saha for the hosts.
BCCI said in a statement,
“
Shami has soreness in his right knee and has been advised rest and rehabilitation. He will be going to the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru to start his recovery programme. Saha who suffered a hamstring tendon injury in the second Test of the ongoing series against England at Vizag, is undergoing rehabilitation programme at the NCA.
”
The fifth match starts on December 16 and India leads England 2-0 in the five-match series.
