Krejza's late impact
Jason Krejza is no superstar. Obviously. But he already looks more suited to India than Lee or Clark. When Krejza was picked to tour I wasn’t that unhappy.

Tunnel Vision
One of the big selling points of a 20/20 match is that it doesn't last very long. This means that can all be done and dusted in under three hours - games can start early evening after work/school, and kids with limited attention span can enjoy the experience. The truncated version of the game also suits the TV scheduling. Oddly the organisers of next summer's 20/20 World Cup seem to have overlooked this - or deliberately disregarded it

Brown wrists
The other day I watched the Pro40 playoff between men in green pyjamas and Jason Gillespie. In this game, Vikram Solanki and Moeen Ali had a bit of a partnership. The commentators took this as their cue to say the word wristy in every sentence.

Fast Forward to Antigua, November 2008
England bowler Stuart Broad runs in to bowl the final ball of the match to Stanford batsman Chris Gayle. England made 170 for 6 off of their twenty overs, and West Indies are 169 for 5. Two runs are therefore required to win in the unprecedented, multi-million dollar winner take all extravaganza.

Don't uncork the champagne, please
Let’s say someone borrows your car and drives it into a ditch. He (or let’s say she, in keeping with the popular lore of women drivers) then buys you a new one as a replacement. At the end of it, will it go down as the two of you being even, or will it go down as you owing him/her (the him being to stave away a ‘chauvinist’ tag) one?

The dullest cult figure in the history of English sport
I had high hopes for Monty Panesar. The first reports were he could really bowl. That he could really not bat.And that he fielded like a particularly uncoordinated cerebral palsy afflicted platypus.

Get a move on
(This post is in reference to the ind.cricinfo.com/engvnz/engine/current/match/296900.html ongoing Test match between England and New Zealand in England, where England scored 319 runs at 2.86 r.p.o in their first innings. Today is the fifth day of the first test.) England deserve to end up behind New Zealand. They looked at the fact there were 2 days left, the fact they had 10 wickets in hand, and they thought, lets play the draw.
It’s piss poor.

Revolution: Count Me In/ Out
I'm sitting at home with my laptop literally on my lap while I sprawl on my rec room couch watching tonight's latest 20/20 match on the telly. What is of note is that this ain't an IPL game (that's on later). The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) is holding an inaugural tournament in Trinidad comprising several local clubs, several smaller islands (Dominica is up tonight v. 'Comets' which features Darren Ganga) and a masters team featuring many former Test players (e.g.Ambrose, Crofty)

The Royal Challengers' king size problems
Bangalore were the obvious team to fall apart in the IPL.They spent too much on players who are not T20 players, and then played their non performing players ahead of the only two T20 players they have.

Turbulence at the top
In April Stephen Fleming resigned as captain of the NZ ODI saying he wanted to stay on as a batsman only in that form of the game, and focus on his test career. Although this came as a bit of a surprise, it did seem to be the best arrangement for both the NZ teams. He was becoming increasingly tired as an ODI captain, and still had enough years ahead of him to finally realise his full potential as a Test captain and batsman

And in the end...
180. 277. 375. 501*. 213. 153*. 400*. 196. The numbers tell a story. The context of the numbers make the story legendary in the purest definition of the word that each shall be talked about across generations. Bringing the most eventful World Cup tournament to a final boil, Brian Lara has announced that he has had enough from the feast that is international cricket. He leaves very few scraps for his contemporaries but much to discuss on his legacy, the fate of regional cricket and of course all of those glittering innings.

Ad hoarding, Ad hoarding on the wall....
As a reaction to India’s shock exit from the world cup the BCCI are proposing to clamp down on players advertising and promotional activity limiting the number of endorsements any player can give to three, and no product can be endorsed by more than two players. It’s being seen as a rather heavy handed, and has predictably raised something of a stink – and it’s surely only a matter of time before some barrack room lawyer starts talking about ‘restraint of trade’ and, going down a road that English footballers have started keenly navigating – ‘image rights’.

Yeah, yeah, move on...
It's been three weeks since India got gobsmacked out of the World Cup, and newspaper reports here are still talking about how cricket merchandise sales are down, pub revenues are down, XBOX cricket game DVD sales are down (at Rs.2,500 or so a DVD, when were they up anyway?), tv ratings are down, cricket playing equipment sales are down.
In this deluge of depression, there is only one thing that comes to mind - get over it already.

An Ode to the Lankans
So far Sri Lanka has been the most interesting team in this World Cup. Their matches against South Africa, in which South Africa limped to victory after a near-fatal collapse (including the remarkable 4 wickets in 4 balls by Lasith Malinga), and against England, in which a great rearguard effort from England's tailenders Bopara and Nixon fell just 2 runs short. That's one-day cricket at its most exciting.

The Pretenders
I'm just emerging from a state of shock. First there was the tragic murder of Bob Woolmer. By all accounts a gentleman and a genuine practitioner of the game whose life was cut short by a person/people unknown. There is all kind of speculation about who did it and the reasons behind this heinous act. Not having all the facts I will not speculate but I certainly hope that the Jamaican police manage to nail the culprit(s).

Affirmations
The most remarked aspect of the spirited if unsuccessful recent Windies ODI tour of India was Marlon Samuels silky batsmanship and all-around game efforts. As if out to singularly rebuke all scribes (self included) who had written him off as one more Gen-Y coulda' been, Samuels seemingly invoked the ghosts of his compatriots Rowe and Mattis as he placed the ball around the sub-continent as if the bat were his hands.

A Moment in History…
I arrived home in a rush to drop off my wife so I could head off to the archery range. There is a tournament coming up and I only have days to prepare. I switched on the TV to catch the latest Ashes score and 3 hours later I was still there, the car left in the driveway and my gear by the front door. I never made it.
