So what does one do when suddenly he or she hits a million dollar jackpot. Most of them are shocked out of their wits, some start jumping on their beds, some yell at the top of their voice and some, well never mind. And what does a certain Ravindra Jadeja do after being enthroned as a million dollar baby, in fact the most expensive player in IPL-5, with a $2 million price tag?
Well, he gets three alphabets ‘C’ ‘S’ ‘K’ engraved through his dry-grass type hair. Shocking? Not really, after all he is a rockstar right? He has to behave and act like one at least. On the right side of his head, the Saurashtra all-rounder got the a haircut that distinctly spells CSK – the initials of the team that paid him this astronomical sum. We are wondering whether Jadeja paid for the hair cut or his IPL team did!
But then there is an argument that IPL is all about sports, glamour and entertainment and to fit into this, some players go out of their way. Even Robin Uthappa got that ‘Apache Indian’ look while playing for Mumbai Indians. But it definitely wasn’t as outrageous or rather one should say that he wasn’t as courageous as Jadeja is.
Even footballers come out on the field with hairdos never seen or heard of, but Jadeja has beaten all of them, in EPL, La Liga or Bundesliga or any leagues in the world showing his commitment to his annadaataas in a unique way. Perhaps he knows that all the men who matter to ensure his career in on the right track, are a part of the same yellow brigade.
So is the haircut to impress the chief selector, the board president and the team captain? Will he be in the good books of the men who matter by this? Well, don’t be surprised if he makes in to the ODI, T20 and also the Test team squad sometime soon. As a matter of fact, he can be a good asset with his wily left arm spinners, a genuine live wire and decent batting down the order.
Though his recent performances in the past don’t really back his case, but then, it doesn’t matter if you are a part of the yellow brigade. He also scored a triple ton for Saurashtra in the last Ranji season to make his claim for the Test side. His five for and a decent fourty plus score against Deccan Chargers this season has made him a strong contender again.
But coming back to his out of the world styling sense, at least on this count he has beaten the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan hands down. The two icons, who got their tresses straightened and lengthy too, now have competition from the ‘rockstar’. The face, oops rather the mane of Indian cricket is changing…
