Mumbai Indians pacer Munaf Patel was fined 50 percent of his match fee for making offensive gestures to Kings XI Punjab players on Sunday.
In the third over of the KXIP innings, Munaf was seen to be resorting to verbal volleys to Punjab opener Nitin Saini after the batsman hit him for two fours and that needed intervention from the umpires and Mumbai captain Harbhajan Singh.
"Munaf Patel of the Mumbai Indians has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for the Level 1 offences - making offensive gestures (Article 2.1.4) and conduct bringing the game into disrepute (Article 2.1.8) in today's (Sunday) match at the Wankhede Stadium between Mumbai and Punjab," an IPL release said.
"Mr Patel admitted the offences and accepted the sanction. In accordance with the IPL Code of Conduct and being Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the release said.
Kings XI Punjab won the match by six wickets.
