Our View: Umpire decision, final decision?

Harbhajan and Munaf tore into the umpires over Sangakkara's dismissal. Unruly scenes on the cricket field. Did the Mumbai players get away only because it was the IPL?

Monday night's unsavoury incident involving Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara and his Mumbai Indians counterpart Harbhajan Singh left a bad taste in the mouth despite a cracker of a match. Would the ICC have tolerated such indiscipline in an international cricket match? Munaf Patel, even pushed his captain aside to have another go at the umpires.

Sangakkara dragged the ball onto the off-stump and the bails were dislodged. The ball then hit stumps a second time after ricocheting off Mumbai wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.

A heated argument followed between Harbhajan and the umpires with Munaf joining in. Play was stopped for over five minutes. Harbhajan was seen arguing with the umpires, apparently asking them why they did not refer the decision to the third umpire.

The field umpires, who apparently thought the ball had hit the wickets after coming off from Karthik's pads, eventually referred the decision to the third umpire who gave Sangakkara out.
