Of all the colossuses who have stridden the history of the game, Brian Charles Lara and Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar are amongst the biggest. For all their faults and failings, there is no doubt that they will be recognized as greats. But here’s the question that has not seen a clear answer ever – who amongst the two was greater? Or, let’s put it this way. If you had to pick a World XI ODI team and could fit in only one of these two, whom would you pick?

We figured it would be interesting to add a new dimension to this perennial debate, and so, decided to slip these two through the SquadStats filter. This basically means, we try and find who amongst the two is a better player in terms of the value they add to their respective teams.

We took a look at their averages in ODI’s, put it against the West Indian and Indian team batting averages in different conditions, under different circumstances, analyzed various other batting statistics and found some interesting results.

I would like to say that if whenever anyone will write "Geeta of cricket" Lara will be declared "Shri.Krishan Bhagwan" & Sachin will be declared"Arjun" becoz without both of them Geeta cant be made by anyone. i am indian it doesnt mean i like sachin but the fact is Lara had a weak team than sachin, curcumstances are very weak for him than sachin, but after this & that Lara proved himself in every situation..both of them are greats but I would like to pay to see LARA.......

Lara is the best batsman, you are all talking about avg of both batsman.
Its so simple Tendlukar has played more matches than Brian Lara both test and odi why the avg is so high is that sachin's not out is more than Lara
Lara has played 299 Odi and 131 test match not out is in odi-32 and in Test-6
Sachin has played so far Odi-417 and 154 Test match not out is odi-38 and in test 26 this is enough to say Lara is the better batsman than Tendulkar.
1)Lara is next to Bradman scoring 9 double centuries in test and sachin only 4.
2)Lara has 300 and 400 whereas sachin not even once in his carrer
3)Won matches for his country more
4)Whenever Lara scores century 90% of the matches are won, if sachin scores 100 only 20% matches are won
5)Sachin has not played big innings like Lara

1.he is technically correct than lara
2.he is more consistant than lara.... his averg. tells the story both in test n oneday.

5.n most important is he loves to play cricket...cricket is his passion... he never made joke with cricket..he is always willing to learn about cricket..

People (sachin fans) from India will allways look what is sachin having better than other bats men and talk only that things and so that he is great. It is really some thing funny.

Some body is saying sachin opens the bat in ondayers where Lara doesn't, and Opening the game is so tough so sachin is great ?
Is that true then why could not sachin do well in meddle (they feel it is very easy thing), could sachin make this many runs or 100'sm, if he had been playing in meddle order, no way but u see Lara's Profile he did well as opener also, and as a Middle order batsmen as well.

Even few people are talking sachin can bowl so he is great.. is it ?
then Kallis can bowl, bat, feild better than sachin so is he great than sachin, and Dravid can bat, bowl, keep behind wickets and good slip feilder so he is great then sachin and kallis.

People some times say SAchin does'nt have support from team mates so that is why he could not make valuble 100's for team and at the same time when you say Lara made the 100's like single handed match winning one's then this people say Lara doesn't have good batsmen arround but sachin is having class mate batsmen so that is why he could not get that chance.....

Don't you get laughed by seeing all this, why you guys try to escape from others skilled areas face that and get measure your's true skill.

Finally I can only say Lara is allways a best batsmen as he could play his natural game till his career end.. he was never been dependent on any other mate to take his team to winning but sachin could not do it himself.

Sachin is natural consistant and dedicated crickter but Lara is having some super natural skills which can not be copied by any other batsmen.

Technically Sachin is far ahead of lara but when it comes to playing long innings everyone accepts lara to do that.

But it is True That Sachin is far Sachin Scored runs pretty heavily in both ODI and Test hence Sachin has proven that he is better than Lara bcoz lara havent scored that heavily in ODI

and to end ppl feel Lara is more aggressive than Sachin but even then Sachin has better strike rate,which is nearly 86 per 100 balls thats because he got such class batting techniq that he can score boundaries at will.

Sachin has represented a weaker Indian team than west Indies has ever been

Its about a oncept "contribution"....in terms of sheer value to the team, Sachin scores better than any of the greats..in batting, in bowling and most importantly in inspiring a generation.

Lara has taken his team home more often then any other batsman.
Playing in the weakest West Indian team ever, Lara has single handedly won matches against the World's Best Teams.
Lara does not play for personal records, that is what is impressive about him. And add this to the fact that brian lara actually walks when he knicks one without waiting for the Umpire's decision. How many batsman in modern cricket apart from Gilchrist do that??

Someone out here raised a point saying that WI havent even reached the Semi Final of a World Cup when Brian lara has been playing for them. I guess that person might not have been born in 1996??.....Ask any South African Cricketer and they would obviously recall the thrashing which Brian Lara single handedly gave them in the Quarter Finals of that World Cup.
