In 2001, Steve Waugh curiously chose not to go for the jugular and allowed England to escape a whitewash, this will not be the case this time as Ponting wants to send a global message at this moment of tremendous transition for his team.  Besides, it doesn't seem they have to work too hard to win these matches do they?

The gut-punch resignations of Martyn, Mc Grath and Warne (with Gilchrist perhaps preparing his press conference in two seasons) bear resemblance to the Windies defections of 1988 (Holding, Gomes and Garner) with suggestions of rancour colouring the air.  I'll take the high road and note that family matters had dogged the two bowlers for a few years now, say thank you for the horrors and take pleasure in Windies recording the highest wicket average (31 per wicket) against Warne (thank you Brian).
