Our View: Outsmarted!!

Chennai Super Kings avenged Saturday's Indian Premier League defeat to Pune Warriors with a 13-run win over the same opposition.

Openers Francois du Plessis (58) and Subramaniam Badrinath (57) - the latter promoted in place of Murali Vijay - set the platform with a stand of 116 before captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni powered Chennai to 164 for five.

Pune were always struggling to keep up with the rate and fell short as Nuwan Kulasekara and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each.

Du Plessis was dropped early on by Murali Kartik and capitalised with a 42-ball half-century, with four fours and one six, though he was then fortunate to survive the narrowest of run-out appeals.

He lifted Kartik for his second six as the partnership reached 100 in 14 overs, and Badrinath joined in with three successive fours off Bhuvneshwar Kumar to move to his half-century, also from 42 balls.

Du Plessis was finally dismissed for 58 from 48 balls when he hoisted Samuels (three for 39) to Angelo Matthews in the deep and Badrinath, who had also ridden his luck, followed in identical fashion two balls later for 57 from 48 with eight fours.

Dhoni then clubbed a spectacular 28 not out from 12 balls in a late acceleration.
Kulasekara (two for 10) removed openers Robin Uthappa and Jesse Ryder cheaply but Sourav Ganguly and

Manish Pandey took Pune past 50.
Pandey fell for 13 and Ganguly for 24, before Samuels (26) drove Ravichandran Ashwin to short cover and Kulasekara took his second catch.

Steven Smith and Mathews kept their side in with an outside chance but the former fell for a boundaryless 23 in the penultimate over.
Matthews (27) missed a leg-stump full toss from Bravo (two for 28) and Pune could only reach 151
