T&T’s story of the tournament can be summed up as so close and yet so far. Batting first their openers gave them a decent start but they never really got going as at halfway T&T were 57/2 with 42% COW. Simmons top scored with 41 but then next highest score was Ganga’s 21 as T&T’s abject batting performances continued to dog them. T&T ended with 139/6 with 42% COW. In reply NSW got off to a comparatively better start but lost both Watto and Warner as they reached 67/2 after 10 with 82% COW. This is where T&T bowlers starting turning the screws and suddenly runs dried up. Wickets started tumbling as NSW were down to 123/8 after 19 with 37% COW. Needing 17 runs off the last over to win, Henriques smashed Rampaul all over the ground as NSW ended with 139/8 to tie the match. Super over was a repeat of last over as Henriques again smashed Rampaul for 18 runs. Needing 19 to win off 6, Simmons smacked O’Keefe to bring it down to 3 off 1 ball but holed out to lose the match by 2 runs. |
