Richie Benaud, without much doubt, was the doyen of cricket commentary.
He was in the commentary box for close to fifty years and always welcomed innovations that made their entry into the annals of the game.
He was particularly fascinated by the snickometer.
Benaud was always excellent at putting things in perspective and more often than not, was the one whom the fans wanted to hear the most.
When Harbhajan Singh took a five wicket haul, the television screen showed a list of all the great off-spinning performances.
Benaud said, " Ah yes, J.C. Laker, best figures in Test history, ten for fifty-three at Old Trafford in 1956.... (pause, the famous Benaud-pause)....and I was one of them."
