England was the best team in the 1950s and, like most other such champion teams, they had a great fast bowling line up during those years.
One summer Hampshire were scheduled to play Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire in consecutive away games.
Freddie Trueman, the Yorkshire legend was having a drink with Gray while the teams were scheduled to meet the follwing day.
"Enjoying it?", asked Freddie.
"Enjoying?", questioned Gray and then added, "First I've got to face you at Paark Avenue, then it's Brian Statham at Old Trafford and as if that's not enough there's that mean bastard Les Jackson at Burton-on-Trent....and you ask me if I'm enjoying it! "
