The 'Christian' manager

India's tour of England in 1952 was not a happy one for the visitors. They were beaten badly in the Test matches and their performance in most of the other First-class matches was ordinary. The tour started with a match against Worcestershire. Rain played spoilsport and during one of the numerous stoppages, Brian Johnston attempted a live interview with the visiting manager. He was a splendid guy but was not much comfortable with the English language. After assuring his interviewer that the team had seven very good batsmen and seven very good bowlers, the manager was asked if he was a selector as well. " No," he replied, "I'm a Christian."
